I know we have a lot of serious golfers on here and quite a few who are very into playing tournaments etc but I wanted to discuss fun.

When you go out for a round with a few friends and decide to just have a fun round instead of stroke play what games do you play and what are your favorites?
Or maybe you are in a men/women's night and they have different game formats to make it fun.

My personal fav right now is Bingo Bango Bongo just because it brings a completely different strategy to it and gives a new insight on how to play the familiar holes ( ie if someone is already on do I go for the green or lay up and give myself a chance to chip it even closer etc )

In my bag:

Nike SQ DYMO 10.5
Big Bertha 3 Wood
Big Bertha 3-10 IADAMS Tom Watson Classic 54,58 and 64 Wedges Nike Oz 5 Putter/Wilson Staff ( not sure model, bought it in second hand store ) Ball: Bridgestone E6

First of all, it's all fun. I don't find golf any more fun doing what you do, or any less fun just playing a typical stroke round. I don't often play what you talk about. There is a group I occasionally play with, but they just play skins and greenies. It's still stroke play though.

I don't care for Bingo Bango Bongo myself, because it takes much of the skill factor out of the game. It's ok on occasion for a mixed group with very wide spread skill levels because it gives the weaker players a shot at winning a point now and then, but it's less fun for me because rewards a single good shot from a hole full of disaster. That actually promotes mediocrity, and for me that isn't what the game is about, nor is that my idea of fun. I'd rather play those players in some sort of match play format using handicap strokes. Maybe a two man better ball team match, with a point system matching the low score on each team and the lowest of the high score on each team (making 2 points possible per hole). That is still golf, and more what I consider to be a fun variation which still lets everyone participate.

I've started playing in a skins game on saturday morning. The foursome I play with also has side bets for skins plus we play low score per hole with teams of two. The teams change every 6 holes, so you end up being teamed up with everyone in the group. I usually end up losing a few bucks but it's fun.

I play matchplay with my friends.

If we're only playing 9 holes we might do "play your worst shot" for your long shots in. It's pretty fun.

I don't like scrambles, and what is BBB?

I always have fun doing stroke play. On par 3s we will do closest to the hole. When I play with my aunt I do best ball a lot.

When you're just trying to have fun without counting strokes and there is a diverse group of players (talent-wise) then scrambles are by far the best. Very relaxing, yet still good competition, and everyone has fun since chances are SOMEONE from your team hits a good shot, and if not, well, misery loves company :)

Match play with strokes. Its competitive for players of all skill levels and one bad hole won't ruin your day.

Skins is also surprisingly doable with a larger group of varied handicaps. It's reasonably fair straight up in a group with a reasonably close hdcp range (+/- 10 strokes) as long as you're playing tees that aren't too difficult for the weakest player.

We always play WOLF just because of the team vs team aspect that constantly changes throughout the game. The scores usually end up close enough where no one owes anyone else too much money.

BBB:

we play another variation of BBB, we do the first on, closest and first in, but we count our putts as well, so we have to putt everything out, we then subtract points from putts for our total.

So for example, you could finish up with 32 putts and 12 points giving you a total of 20, someone else could have 30 putts and 11 points giving a total of 19. We play for a quarter per point, as I have said before I'm not a big fan but it does make a change.

I can't stand BBB on Tiger Woods lol so I'm not sure I would like it in real life. I have fun when I'm playing/practicing/anything having to do with golf.
