Acegolfer and sean_miller (almost didn't recognize your post due to change in avatar) those are great positions. For people looking at acegolfer's he is using a graphite shaft (or my eyesight is leaving me) so at the clubhead end of the shaft the shaft looks like it is angled back, but you need to look at the butt end, the end that his hands have more control over, where you see that that end of the shaft is angled forward.

For people looking at acegolfer's . . .

Yeah, that's sort what I was hinting at - looks solid to me.

PS. I also didn't notice Shanks' comment immediately preceding my post (guys claiming to have a 300 yard average and a poor short game). I don't claim to have either one of those things.

Shanks & All, I think this is a great thread. The impact area is the moment of truth, and I'm keen to the trend that we're seeing here. I'll post some stills at impact after a range session and see if I can throw the whole hypothesis out of whack. :)

Thanks. Yes, I'm using a regular flex graphite. And the camcorder is 60FPS, which will give digital artifact due to scanning from top to bottom.

What I don't like about my swing is I still have some weight on my right side. I need to transfer more weight to left side while keeping the head behind the ball. Here's another picture (it's right before impact).

First off... excuse my previous misuse of the word 'average'. I don't have the ability to 'edit' my postings or it would have been corrected, prior to your nit-picking.

lol... my bad. It wasn't my intention to offend you. I was simply correcting your error -which it was- whether by mistake or not. Don't get so emotional.

While there are many variations in detail, handicap systems are generally based on calculating an individual player's playing ability from his recent history of rounds. Therefore, a handicap is not fixed but is regularly adjusted to increases or decreases in a player's scoring.

Yep, correct! It's an indication of a players potential based on their recent rounds.

He's pretty much jumped the shark and the couch. Just ignore and get back to the topic at hand. Anyone else have a video?

Yeah I guess I didn't realize before commenting. My bad.

Back on topic we go.

Here I am about 2 months ago. Driver video, 6 iron picture. My swing has changed a little bit but I'm not really scoring much different.

Cool thread SAM.

jwolf,

What's your camera's FPS?
What's your shaft flex?

Curious to know because shaft bends like a C shape.

It's just an illusion.

Mostly yes, but the shaft does flex that way a little bit.

What I don't like about my swing is I still have some weight on my right side. I need to transfer more weight to left side while keeping the head behind the ball.

You should try to get your left leg a little straighter, which could be done by pushing the hips a little more.

Ah, just a tiny bit of kick depending on the stiffness. The impact of the ball often makes them go the other way.

If you compare that to mine: My camera scans differently, so there's no glitch (or maybe a very tiny amount at best). On things like cel phone cameras, there's a very clear visible glitch.

So far, not a single double digit has had a forward leaning club shaft, and vice versa. Interesting... I think iacas was right. Keep them coming.

This is a great thread. I've worked with some of the top names and studied the game a ton. Ball position has a huge impact on what your impact position looks like. There seems to be a theme of the further the handle is leaning ahead of the head at impact the better. That is simply not true. True if the handle is behind at impact that creates problems. There is so much more to the game than handle ahead at impact. There is an overall arc of the club that needs to be functioning properly.

  • 1 month later...

Haven't taken any video for a long time, during which my swing sure hasn't got any better looking. Anyway, here's impact (right before and right after) from the other day as close as I can slice it.

That looks pretty solid to me. Just need to get those hands a couple more inches forward before you turn through.

Is there a specific practice drill to work on getting the hands more forward at impact position? I can't seem to do it nor get the feel of it for the life of me, and I've been trying to work on it for the past month.
