I just seen a thread where a person was doubting another because they have been playing for only 10 or a year and claimed to be a 10 handicap is that realy that unlikely. I've been playing 3 months but haven't missed a day yet usualy hit at/east 1 bucket and walk 9 holes a day more on weekend n can usualy break 90 on good days someone told me eventualy everyone plateaus and if so when did yall plateau? ( I think I've hit mine but can still see 3 or 4 strokes I'm losing on 9 holes)

I took eight years off after having two back surgeries in 2001. I've been back playing about three years and shoot around 80 most rounds. My problem is when hunting season starts here in Alabama, I put the clubs up for a few months.

This is my first year on a golf course, and it is very sad how short summer is gonna be. I cant wait to move south.

But it is not impossible if you put in the work. I play with guys in their 40s who play maybe 2 times a month, and dont understand why they dont get better.

I've been playing for 4 or 5 years and am at a 5 handicap. I work on my game a bit harder then the average joe though. I play almost everyday, all day in the summers, and I've taken several lessons.

Years ago I met a guy at the course who had never played before.

We became friends and over the following 3 months he went from an abject beginner to a guy who could shoot low 40s for 9 (typically all we had time for back then).

He didn't have great touch around the greens or know how to hit certain shots, but he could drive it a mile and putt like a madman (in a good way).

He moved away after that.

Maybe he was a freak of nature, but I suspect he could have become a 10 (or better) in a few more months.

I would be very upset if plateauing was inevitable!

Oh you have much to learn young padawan

Even par through 9 is my best.  I don't even want to think about what was my worst.

I was on vacation last year at the Gulf. I took my clubs to play a few rounds while there. I got paired up with two 60 year old guys that were school teachers from Georgia. They were a hoot! One guy was ok at golf and knew how to play the game but the other guy was hilarious. After he would hit the ball he would look at the other guy and ask "what do I do now?" The other guy would tell him what club to use next and the guy would hit the ball and it would always be a great shot. I don't know if they were playing a joke on me or the guy was just that good of a athelete. He would par most holes and bogied a few but he acted like he had never played before. He wound up shooting in the low 80s. It was lots of fun playing with those guys. They were comedians.

I've been playing for a few years, and just recently hit a big plateau... well, it's more like I drove off of the plateau. Out of my last 5 rounds I've only been able to get a consistent swing with my irons in one of those rounds. The other 4 there have been many over-the-top hits and shanks... Last week I shot an 82, then followed that up with a 101.

One highlight though... I played a 550yd par 5 the other day... duffed my tee shot and was about 450 away. Hit my 2-hybrid and left myself with about 210 to go... caught a solid 4 iron and put it to 20ft and drained the birdie. Never in my life would I have thought of possibly playing a par 5 as "sand wedge," hybrid, 4iron.

Guy in my "circle" started golf a year ago, he had 3 games under 10 the past month. He plays 3-4 times a week. The rest of the week he spend all day (actually not all day, but 4-5 hours) at the range practicing on his short game.
