Any thoughts on who will win?

My bets are on Tiger Woods?

Incidentally Tiger was spotted watching Chelsea vs Liverpool football match last week. Is Tiger a soccer fan?

Of course, Woods has a lot going for him... ;)

I wonder how the Ryder Cup has affected players. I guess some of the americans wants to show they are really great so might make for top finishes. I think the Euro rookies (Stenson and Karlsson) will probably not be high up on the leaderboard; lots of new situations and impressions the last week with the RC and they are probably mentally tired.

The same might go for other Euros but I think Sergio might be able to carry over some of the good energy from the RC into his own play this week.

So apart from Woods, I predict Sergio or possibly Scott.

I actually get 21-to-1 on Sergio and 18-to-1 on Scott at my online betting site so will probably put in some dough there... :)

Tiger is 3-to-1! Amazing for a golf tournament but I guess that is the kind of stats he has (wins every 5-6 tournaments he plays and even better for WGC).

I have to agree, at first I was going to say Sergio won't win because he sucks but I wonder if the Ryder Cup will give him a bit of a boost, at least this week.

Why is it that during the majors or any regular PGA Tour event I can pull for Sergio but the second the Ryder Cup starts I just want to slap the taste out his mouth? But my pick is Tiger, especially seeing him Sunday at the Ryder Cup, he showed his game is certainly still there.

Luke Donald.

He always strikes the ball very well, and he has been putting lights out as of late. He is also riding high in confidence after going 3-0 last week. And by the way, I haven't seen a leaderboard yet because I have the TiVo set to watch it when I get off work. So Donald may be +5 for all I know.

I'll take my chances though.

Well, I watched what I had TiVoed last night. It was some really good golf to watch. Tiger's 18th hole was pretty spectacular, and he run his eagle putt in with A LOT of speed. It was a confident stroke to say the least.

The leaderboard is packed with great golfers, and it will be interesting to see what happens over the weekend. I'm recording today's action as well, but I'll get to watch tomorrow and Sunday at its regular time thankfully.

Am I the only one that hopes the wind blows 30mph and the course dries out? I'm kinda vile like that, but I would love to see it play a little tougher.

Will the weekends coverage by ABC by tape delayed? Sounds strange that they start as late as 1pm ET, which would be 6pm GMT where it is played. Must be tape delayed then?

Apparently so.

I thought I'd heard they were on at 8am or so (i.e. live), but a quick check at pgatour.com/info/tvtimes says nope: 1pm. Boooo!!!!

the question is now can you not check espn in the morning, so you don't know the scores people are putting up for the golf you're about to watch.

NOT A CHANCE. I've known every x-mas present beforehand, too. Not much for surprises.

Its too bad it wasn't live. Its not like ABC has anything on Saturday morning. I could have used a good primer before watching college football.

    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
