Thinking I want to ditch my 2 hybrid and possibly the 3 in favor of a 4 wood and another wedge or maybe a 3 and 5 wood. I have built my bag (including the bag) via craigslist and ebay for only $550, so I would like to keep the bargain theme going. Anyone playing oldies but goodies that you can recommend I demo?

The Cobras can be had for pretty cheap, even the current models. You Have a Nike driver, and the Nike Dymo fairway woods are pretty cheap too.

Note: By "cheap" I mean inexpensive, not poorly made.

I've never owned them but always liked them when I've hit them in stores. I like the way they look too.

If I was ditching my hybrids, I would add the Cobra 5 & 7 woods. I used to hit the Cobra 3, 5 & 7 M Speed Offset woods. They were terrific!...then my swing changed a bit and my shattered left wrist got stronger so I replaced them with a regular Cobra 3 wood & a 17* and 20* hybrid.

The Cobra 3, 5 & 7 woods can be had pretty cheap.....and they perform well.

07 Burners can be found used for $50-60 pretty easily. Tour Edge CB1/CB2 have really come down lately since they introduced CB3...I'm seeing them in that same $60 range and guarantee they're as good a fairway as you'll find.

Go to Callaway pre-owned and look at the Big Bertha Warbird and/or any of the Steelhead models from the mid/late 90's. All were very quality fairway woods and can probably be had for around $50 or less.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Try and find a nice Ping Rapture (v1) Fairway Wood. I use the v1 7-wood as a fairway driver/hybrid and it gets 200-220+ easily, with great forgiveness and that awesome ping sound too! These can be found fairly cheaply (I bought a new one last year for $70 bucks, but, with the introduction of the v2s a while back, I'm sure you can find a nice cheap v1 7-wood for a good price. As these are Ping, you can be reassured in the quality of their manufacturing and long-term appeal.

Also, goblue advised getting the Callways (like the steelhead, which I own the driver). I would advise against that, mainly because I bought my steelhead for about 20 bucks and I have since taken it out of my bag, for it is a terrible club (as mentioned, I owned the 1-wood driver, so...)

Thanks.

nice, a 36 handicap advises that you do not buy a Callaway club from his/her very limited experience.

I used a Callaway X-Tour fairway wood (you can find them for very cheap now) with great success. They are amazing clubs actually. Ping fairway woods on the other hand, While I enjoy the G10 driver, I do find the Ping fairway woods to be very appealing.

You can find newer '06 or '07 Callaway X fairway woods for like $60-70.

I said I had only used the Steelhead driver, which, in my opinion, fails in comparison to any other driver available today. Also, I just created this account half an hour ago, so I could get some help with my putter dillema. Thanks for your critique of me, while I only offer my simple opinion and nothing more...

If you're looking for older Callaway, try some of the local golf shops. It's not hard to find a Steelhead 3W and 5W with the same shafts; people often trade them in together. And, you could test them before buying.

The FT fairway woods are worth considering, although more expensive. The FTs came with a 4W, if you can still find one.

And he's disagreeing with you. If you express an opinion on a golf message board that a club is "terrible", you have to expect that someone will disagree. Plus, he didn't recommend the Steelhead driver, it's a thread about fairway woods. And truthfully, I have to agree with him-as a 36 handicap you don't have the swing, skill, or experience to determine that a club is terrible. You may opine that you found it more difficult to hit than other options, and that's completely valid.
