Given that you were playing on your own, I don't think the rules come into into, given that you aren't playing in a comp and can't submit a card that you've marked yourself, anyway...

The OP's sig shows he's in the U.S. Here (and I believe in any USGA-sanctioned handicap system) non-attested scores can be submitted.

...Not turning in a scorecard just because it wasn't attested is a potential sandbagging issue.

As you may know, under some handicap systems (I believe Great Britain's is an example) you can only submit a score that was attested. I suspect Shorty lives in an region that uses such a handicap sysytem and was assuming that was the case for the OP.

Which I believe is part of the reason why that requirement was dropped by the USGA a few years back. When I first started carrying a handicap it was still required, but as anyone could scribble a signature on the card whether they had played with you or not, it didn't hold much water. Now they leave it up to the respective handicap committees to police the golfers under their control.

rules aside, If i were on the green and the person playing through hit it in the drink and then strolled to the drop zone to play his third..I would probably be much more annoyed than if he were to just hit another from the tee box. Good job.

On a side note, why does it seem like everytime I get waived through I hit a terrible shot? Never fails...smh

I think he just thought you didnt know the rule and was telling you of it. I would have played the same way.

I think the fellow in question was just letting you know that you should have used the drop zone, which is there for a reason.

Why should he have used it? He was within the rules to hit another from the tee and had a valid reason to do so -- to avoid delaying the following group.

Glad to see I did right both rules wise and common since wise.
Now that I think back, it is possible he was only telling me I could have gone to the drop spot and I just took it wrong since I was steamed about just dumping a ball in the water.
