Play in a small league on Sundays. We were the 2nd group to go off today and as we teed off on 12 we saw that a slower group let the group in our league play thru. We get to the 12th green and theres a big hole/divot right in front of the hole! We all look at it and come to the conclusion that somebody ahead of us got pissed off about missing a putt and swung his putter at the ball and took out a chunk of the green, we look off the green and sure enough, there's the guy's Top Flight sitting on the other side of the path.
We called the guys ahead of us in our group to confirm it wasn't them and then confronted the group that did it. They all of course, denied it. The guy who denied it most strongly then teed up his ball and guess what he was hitting? A friggin Top Flight!

I can't stand people who treat the course like that so we reported it to the pro shop. I don't know if anything will be done about it but if you can't show the game & the course some friggin respect than stay home!

Rant over.

Oh my...what a class act . Some people just don't know how to treat a course. He probably doesn't repair his divots in the fairways and his ball marks on the greens too...

Reminds me of the guy wearing metal spikes ( on a course that doesn't allow them ) last week...judging by the marks he left on ALL the greens , he probably never lifts his feet off the ground to walk !

That type of player would be the first to bitch when the green fees take a hike.

Oh my...what a class act

It was very frustrating. I'm not a good golfer at all and I get really frustrated with my game at times but I never take it out on the course. To do that to the green just shows a total lack of repect for the course, the game & the players that are following you.

Anyone who does that to a green should be banished from the course. Permanently.

I know this happens all the time but we had a teenager who thought it would be funny to take his car and do donuts on the green. Well during his "fun", his car got stuck and he had to walk home. Of course when the police came, they were easily able to track down the culprit. $20,000 in damages his parents had to pay. Ouch!!!!

Couple of replies here:

@ Fowler, while I was working at a course. One day I was called by a frantic resident (condo's on the course) to book it to the 10th green. I got there and 4 nephews of another resident were Hitting irons and wedges RIGHT OFF THE GREEN, They had about 20 balls on the green and it looked like they had already hit about 20 each off the green towards toe tee >_<. They were young 9-14years old and just taking out huge chunks every swing because they sucked. Green was trashed for quite some time, the person who signed them in im sure had to deal with all sorts of issues such as paying for damages, having visitor rights revoked ETC. I didnt yell at the kids but you shoulda heard the Pro chew their ear off. I laughed about it for weeks.

@Frank
Played on Friday and someone was BRUTALIZING the Green looked like we had Michael Jackson in cleats out there moon walking circles around the cup. You had sit there and pat the grass down for 10mins to be able to putt. Whats so hard about picking your feet or being in touch with the world enough to realize that you are TRASHING the green everywhere you go. I swear some people are friggin clueless.

This spring, the local muni (Same course in the opening post) reopened after completing a million dollar renovation. Some citizens were really bent out of shape over spending tax dollars for the golf course. The night before it reopened somebody went out with a shovel and dug up some of the greens. All that did was cause the city to spend more tax dollars to fix it.

I can't believe people like this exist. It's one thing to see loads of unrepaired ballmarks on some greens... primarily muni courses. But to intentionally damage greens is a real shame. It's time these boneheads take up another sport. Maybe dumpster diving from rooftops!

I know the type of people who do that. I used to play with a guy in high school that had quite the temper. I recall seeing him toss an iron in a creek and throw a putter and almost hit a guy in the teeth. However, I played with him recently and he missed a putt from about a foot out and took a large backswing right over the hole. Of course he hit the edge of the cup and peeled about 7 square inches of green up. I'll never let him live that down.

Funny. I saw the same thing on my course this year, a huge beaver pelt taken just below the cup. Hackers.

I was playing behind two women at a course I play when traveling, one was wearing softball cleats, left craters with every step. Greens were very soft that day, a blind man good track her. I don't think she was doing it to be distructive or malicious, but she really did a number on them. I kept my mouth shut and played through.

What really bothered me about the whole thing was that the guy didn't even attempt to fix it. He should've at least tried to clean it up a bit but the chunks of dirt & grass were still laying on the green. So, he missed his putt, slammed his putter through the green, saw the damage he did, shrugged & walked away. Very classless.

I don't know the exact cost of greens but I've heard figures of £40k at good courses. If I was in charge of a course and came across that damage the suspect would be dealing with the police.

We reported it to the pro shop but if the guy's not a member and just came in for a round, I'm not sure how much can be done. I'm sure that the guy who did it won't go back to that course.

Most likely a Democrat, they get that warm and fuzzier feeling taking in more tax dollars?

    • Day 12: Same as last couple days, but focus was on recentering aspect of flow. When I recenter earlier I make decent contact most swings but if I recenter late or not at all it’s a roll of the dice.
    • A couple of things.  Some of the clubs in your bag should be dropped immediately.  A 2-iron for example with what obviously seems to be a lower swing speed or possibly not great swing yet is a definite no-no.  To be hitting that 120-140 yards, which I assume includes run, is a sign that you are not getting the ball airborne at the correct angle to maximise distance.  The reason your 3 and 5 hybrid are going the same distance is that your launch angle is better with the 5.  Loft is your friend. Ideally I would suggest going to a golf or sporting store where you can hit golf balls on a simulator without being disturbed to understand your club carry distances and hopefully swing speed.  With that information we can definitely guide you better.
    • Let us be clear, unless you have proof of cheating, you just sound like a case of sour grapes.  In our club we have a guy who won club titles for many years.  Yes, he was a low single digit handicapper, but there have been quite a few others who played at his level.  Yet his mental strength and experience helped him win in many years when he shouldn't have.  Did he sandbag.  DEFINITELY NOT.  Did he just minimize his mistakes and pull out shots as and when needed.  Definitely.
    • Day 111 - Worked on my grip and higher hands in the backswing. Full swings with the PRGR.
    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
