x20 v.s. x22 v.s. x24

What are some of the differences besides age.

Performance wise, not really too much. The X24's obviously have the dark finish, and maybe one degree or so of stronger loft in a few clubs, but the playability is very similar. I still play the X20's, and tried both the 22's and 24's, and thought they wre more of a sideways move than an upgrade. I think the 20's have a cleaner look about them too.

The X20s look the best, in my opinion. That would have been my preference for purchase in the spring but I ended up getting free shaft upgrades with the Diablo forged, and I liked the top line a bit better. A buddy plays the X20 and has for 3 years now - they still look fantastic. Check out the Diablo Edge, too, I've heard really good things about them.

I play with the X22 and like them. Seems to be a good compromise between feel and game improvement for someone at my level. Better than my old X14 which were pretty beaten up. I have zero experience with X20 & X24.

I play X20-tours, and they are fantastic. Have looked at the X22-tours and saw almost no difference beyond graphics (Callaway moved some weight around supposedly to give a 10% higher MOI...for a cavity back iron as opposed to a monstrous driver, i'm guessing that's probably negligible in terms of performance benefit for most of us). X24's don't look very different except for graphic design appealing to old Pontiac Trans-Am owners (no offense if you like a loud Trans-am)...and no X24-tour model, as the X-Forged or Diablo Forged are now the "Tour" replacement so to speak.

So, if you're thinking about X-series irons and can get a better deal on X20's (i got mine brand new last year for <$299), i'd go for that.

I'm currently swinging an X-22 Tour set and they are great. I'm considering changing the shafts, though, to get them a bit more like what I wanted.

You can't go wrong with any sets you mentioned, if you wanted a "game improvement" set. From those 3 models, it would come down to what you're willing to pay for since they don't have that much differences, performance-wise.

ok, i now no i am either gonna get 09 burner irons or x20/x22, but deciding which brand driver and woods to get are gonna determine that.

Try not to let brand play too much of a role into what you get... Just goes with what fits your game best, if that happens to be all Taylormade or Callaway then cool but don't get something you don't hit as well just because they match.

I am gonna have to get a whole set and then upgrade individually because i am 14, so unless someone gives me some $$$$$$$$ i have to start with a full set.

the same difference between ping's g5,g10, and g15 irons.... all looks really.

The X20s have a dull nickel finish, don't show bag wear as much as the X22s.

I test hit both of them, along with their Tour variants, when I switched clubs in 2009. Got full specs on all four sets in an e-mail from Callaway. The X20s and X22s have the same loft for all their irons, except the X22s are a degree stronger in the AW and SW. Bounce angles vary a half-degree in a couple of the numbered irons. In the full six-category ratings of the Maltby Playability Factor, both are considered UGI. X20 MPF = 1051, with Vertical Center of Gravity of .635 X22 MPF = 854, with VCOG of .741 (a tad higher, encouraging slightly lower ball flight, hence lower MPF). Both has the Uniflex as stock steel shaft. On a couple of different days, I consistently hit the X22 about 2 yards farther than the X20s; but I could get a slightly used set of X20s for $300 less than new X22s, so I went with them. Only problem with X20s is they tend to be a little sticky in the rough (large head). I know, it I didn't hit my driver into the rough, it wouldn't be a problem... I test-hit the X24 one time. Had an OK feel, but I have no desire to swap out. Compared to X20 and X22, the X24 model has stronger lofts, which allowed the set to dump the 3i: IRON LOFTS ........ X20/22 :... X24 3i.......21*....... None 4i.......24*....... 22* 5i.......27*....... 25* 6i.......30*....... 28* 7i.......33*....... 31* 8i.......37*....... 35* 9i.......41*....... 40* PW.....45*....... 45* GW.....50*....... 50* SW.....55*....... 55* LW.....60*....... None Basically, the X24 has embraced loft deflation like the Cobra irons.

I asked Callaway reps if an X24 Tour model was coming out, and got two different replies.

One person said the X24 was a blending of the standard and Tour models from the recent X-family offerings.

A second person said Callaway would release X24 Tours this coming spring; idea was to wait because of the recession rather than releasing X24 and X24 Tours all at once.
