Help I cant hit my irons. I hit my driver 240 yds 3W 220yds 5W 200 yds but I can only hit my 5I 150 yds 7I 125 yds 9I 100 yds. These are average distances for my rounds. I feel that my swing plane is too steep coming into the ball and I hit alot of fat shots with my irons. My typical ball flight is very high.

Get your weight more forward with your iron shots. You could do this by moving the ball back in your stance or a greater shift in weight. This way you can trap the ball and compress it against the ground while hitting down on it.

Long as you are steady with the distances and are getting good loft I wouldn't be too ashamed if I was a club or 2 behind everyone.

That's very strange. Usually, I hit the irons farther like 5i: 180 yards, 6i: 170yards, 7i: 165 and so on. My driver distance is around 240 yards. Are you sure you're not overestimating your woods and driver distance?

you might be flipping with your irons, or what pavespawn said.

Lol, I feel as if it is really hard to apply advice given not only on this site but others as well. Im not bashing this site or any other, i just feel it is better to get a pro in your area to give you some lessons. Not because you cant play but he can spot something in your swing that we cant cause we are just hearing your problem. know what I mean? you will gwt numerous different answers from here and it can be confusing. Especially when you are trying everything ya know? So i would get somepne to look at your swing in person. Just my opinion

You can get some really great advice by knowledgeable people on this site if you post videos of your swing.

if you mean that you are hitting down on the ball too much, causing you to chunk it a lot and all..and you may not be hitting the ball as high as you used to, move the ball farther up in your stance and try to sweep it a little bit more...ive been doing the same thing recently after i somehow started moving the ball to far back in my stance.

Thanks for your replies, my irons are 1 inch longer than normal per my club fitter. I do think that my swing plane is too steep causing me to be high and short with my irons, but I am having trouble flattening it out. I do really hit my woods that far which really isn't exactally crushing the ball. I carry 5 woods in my bag 1-3-5-7-9 because of not being to hit my irons worth a crap. Also I normally leave my irons out to the right.

Also when Ihit a really long ball with any of my clubs its usally a dead pull.

Sounds familiar. I know when I start doing this it's because I'm not getting my weight over to my left side and I'm coming over the top.

Can you post a video of your swing?

What I don't understand is how your able to hit your woods so far if you have a steep swing plane.
Most people sweep with the longer clubs.

If you could post a video it'd be easier to highlight your problem instead of people posting loads of conflicting advice.

Sounds like a case of flipping, fat shots etc. A video would help.

If it's a swing issue I'm not the guy to help, but it could be the clubs. I hit my 7i 150 yds off the mats at a driving range with my x-12's, but hit 165+ with my business partners McGregor clubs. Club lengths were the same, but his were game improvement clubs, so I guess that's the difference, or just mine are old.

    • Flying into ATL on Sept 11 (Thu), early, leaving Sept 15 (Mon), late. Dates are fixed. Trying to hit the best RTJ Trail stops without spending half the trip in the car.   Plan: Thu: Grand National (Lake or Links) Fri: GN AM, then drive to Capitol Hill, play Senator Sat: Capitol Hill – Judge Sun: Ross Bridge Mon: Oxmoor Ridge early, drive to ATL   Thinking about squeezing in Cambrian Ridge after Capitol Hill—worth it or too much? Would love any feedback or tips from those who’ve done it.
    • Day 73 (13 Jul 25) (note: forgot to post the "day" for the past few days, up to day 73) - Easy day in the backyard, with time on the 50deg wedge and the mat (simulating tight lies around the green) working on low spinners.  Love using this mat as it is small and portable but also lends to being a type of alignment rod to get a proper setup.  Finished up with a few swings with the 54.
    • Congrats on the new leg of your journey - the challenge of learning something new while dealing with Parkinson’s is totally awesome.
    • Played several holes today with my Buddy's left haded clubs.  I was going to order just woods, but after playing again today and hitting the irons well, I will be ordering a complet set of Left handed Clubs.    They are Callaway Edge, Regular flex.  I am excited !  Will let you know after I try them and let you know how well they performed.    Retired Old Man, Terry
    • Depends in part on what lie the greens crew left me. If it's first cut of rough or fairway and clear shot to cup, it's an 8i chip and run. If it's shaggy, or I have to go over ridge or bunker, it's a cut shot with a 58* LW.
