Ever Been Complimented?

I don't recall ever receiving compliments on my swing until one day at the range. I was hitting it surprizingly well for me, with my shots consistently flying in a perfect trajectory and landing on the artificial greens near the pins. A lady was sitting behind the tees, with a beautiful black lab curled up at her feet, while her husband was hitting. After a particularly nice shot, I heard her say to him while motioning in my direction that "he must be a very good golfer".
I looked over and graciously thanked her for the compliment, adding that her dog was beautiful, and one of the most well behaved dogs I had ever seen. I then asked if it was hard to keep a lab from wanting to run out and fetch the hundreds of balls that were flying about. "Not at all", she said. "As my guide dog, he is trained to stick right by my side, no matter what!"

Turns out that I have one of the nicest swings she had ever "heard"!

Yep.

I've had people tell me they like the smoothness of my swing. I don't really swing frantically & usually hit my irons a pretty decent ways.

I've also had people ask me how i hit the ball with my swing. Somebody last round tried to fix my loop to the outside on the backswing. I've developed Furyks swing without even knowing it. Sweet.

Isn't "nice shot" a compliment? Everyone who's golfed has gotten a "nice shot" from someone at some point in their lives, no?

Few weeks ago, playing at White Fish Resort in Montana, last hole, I bury my ball in a greenside bunker on the last hole, right at the lip. I just started playing again this year after a 10 year break so things aren't as good as they once were. Anyway, I approach my ball as a group of 8 or so Japanese tourists are walking along the 18 green back to their rooms. Somehow, with one foot out of the bunker, knee almost touching the ground, I dig this thing out 6 feet from the pin, the tourist stop and applaud, yelling great shot, etc. Naturally, while trying to be Joe Cool I missed the putt!!

My playing partners sometimes say "nice putt Alice" but they say it when I leave a putt short and my name isn't Alice.

hahha! I nicknamed my buddy "Alice McThreejack" he always leaves his putts short and 3 putts!! hahha! he hates it! hahah!
