Current golf contract:

I can play all the golf I want as long as:
  • It is Saturday.
  • I get home, meaning in the house, by 12:00 P.M.

These rules may seem harsh/rigid but I have been able to abide by them for the longest time. Sure, there have been times when I've been in breach of contract but have gotten off with a verbal warning or the dreaded "stink eye".

Well, I had a heart to heart and was able to renegotiate the current terms of the contract to be ammended as thus:

New golf contract
  • I can practice/play golf THREE (3) times per month.
  • A MINIMUM of TWO (2) of the practice/play rounds MUST be completed with me at the house by 10:00 A.M.
  • I can play ONE (1) FULL, uninterrupted, non-threatening, non -worrysome, non-"stink eye" 18 hole round ONE (1) time per month.
  • FULL 18 hole rounds CANNOT be played back-to-back, consecutively.
  • I am ALLOWED to play back-to-back 9-hole rounds. (as long as I'm home by 10:00 A.M.)
  • Practice/play rounds (9 or 18 holes) not played WILL NOT carry over into the new/next month. USE OR LOSE.
  • This contract can be renegotiated/terminated AT ANY TIME by wife.

Now at first this may seem rigid but I guess I'm counting on playing that ONE time in the month with out any worry of impending/imminent penality. That's about it..So what do you guys think?

sucks to be you ...but I did something for my soon to be wife. She wanted me to take dance lessons, but for every dance lesson she has to caddy for me. 1 for 1. Three dance lessons down and 3 to go.

I know what I'd say to the contract, but this is a family forum.

Good luck with it man. By the way, I hope my wife doesn't read this.

Wow, your wife is one heck of a lawyer.

You could play every Saturday (four times/month) and now you are down to three?

the contract that I am currently under allows me to get as much golf in a month that a $100 will cover, and it has to be on Sunday. Heres the catch I work nights and every other Saturday night I work until 8 a.m. Sunday morning. So If I can find some really good deals (walking of course!) and don't need much sleep, I might get in a couple rounds a month. I am thinking of renegotiating this soon so any body know a good lawyer?

I see it as I get to play a decent full round of 18 holes without worrying that I have to make it back by 12:00 PM..I can wake up later and just take my sweet time without having to deal with the pace of play.

To speak on behalf of my wife she is a good gal and not what you think..she's a great mom and great wife..I understand her plight when I'm off playing golf and she has to deal with the kids (3 and 1 y/o) all morning..

Anyway..so far so good.

My wife hates golf, but it will be a cold day in H#LL when I will agree to a set of rules stipulating when I can and cannot play. I was a golfer when I met her and I made it real clear to her before we got married how much I played so she deals.

On the other hand I do try to make sure I have time with her and do things with her. And during the summer I always play early so I can get home for family time.

Uhhhhhh.... I posted 85 rounds or so this year, and that doesn't count the times I practiced, played 12 holes and walked in (rain, appointments, etc.), whatever.

If presented with such a contract, I'd be looking at dissolving another "agreement" of sorts. Bye bye wife!

I guess I'm the winner... my "contract" says I can play whenever I want, where ever I want. Practice sessions are unlimited and uncontrolled. The only obligation - participation in her-side family events (b-day dinners, etc.) about 4 - 5 times a year. I'm 100+ rounds for the year with 6 trips to Myrtle, one trip to St. Andrews, 1 week in SC/NC for the Newport Cup...

I've played somewhere between 15-20 rounds this year which is actually pretty despressing to think about. Most if it has to do with financial reasons though. It's just crazy to think I'll only average two times per month or so for the entire year, and five of those rounds were in North Carolina this past weekend.

So Maverick, don't feel bad man. You are actually well above me in rounds played, even with the contract.

I know how it is brother. I have a wonderful wife and children too but I need to be careful about when and how much I play. I don't have a formal contract but essentially I only get to play 18 hole rounds on very special occasions. I can generally play 9 holes and practice 4 to 5x a week. My family life just demands too much time. But, I do get cut slack when I play with my son. And I intend to get my daughter playing as soon as I can. She's Korean by birth and is a wonderful 8 year old athlete. So I'm looking at a future LPGA star (just a father's vanity).

I guess comparatively speaking, I've got a really different situation.

3 years ago my wife got me into golf! No kidding, she would golf with her co-workers (you know 'meetings' on the course and the like of), and she'd tell me she wish I played. I only watched golf at this point because I never golfed as a kid, pure hockey/football background.

So now I play as much as possible, as long as I can find a partner. I often go with her, and then the next day with a buddy. I go to the range a lot, and if she ever says anything I just turn to her and say, 'It's your fault. You created a monster.' Then I laugh maniacally and tell her I'm off to buy a new driver (jokingly of course).

So the only thing that inhibits my play time is her family events, and the weather up here. (Snow will be on the ground probably within a month the way it's been going. )

Wow!! You must have a golf related job or job where it is important to play. There is no way a married guy outside the industry gets to play that much golf. Are you in the industry? Does your wife play?

Anyway, I don't have a formal contract but I always "ask" before I play and usually try to plan a week in advance. Unfortunately, I also play alone or get paired with strangers often since I wake up at the crack of dawn to play and get back in to spend time with the family. Most of my friends and golf buddies don't enjoy the game enough to tee off at 6:30 AM or 7 AM and wake up at an approriate time to make that happen.

I would guess I played 40+ rounds this year and for the most part can play when I want. I work from home so I usually practice over lunch and play either early morning or late afternoon (also play when I am on the road). I usually don't play on the weekend due to the 5 hour round but even then my wife just understands my enjoyment of golf. Now that of course may change once we have kids . . .

Now if I can talk her into some more golf trips . . .
