What is truly the difference between the Taylormade R9 TP and Non-TP irons?

I have just purchased a set of R9 Irons (4i-9i). I purchased the R9 PW separately and it just came today and I noticed its actually the R9 TP PW. So whats the real difference between the TP and non TP irons/wedges?

If they are anything like the other irons from TM, the TP versions feature a smaller head (heel to toe), narrower sole, reduced offset, thinner topline, higher CG...

It's an entirely different head, designed for entirely different players.

with the drivers, the TP version is slightly open 1.5* or so i believe...also shaft options.

I would assume the TP version irons have a bit less offset maybe?

On the TP the soles and toplines are a little thinner, the club is a tiny less chunkier, and the lofts are a little weaker.

yes we all know that lol. the discussion is on the technical differences in specs...ie, loft, how open/close club face is, heel or topline, etc, not what TP stands for.

The other fellas have it right, the R9 TP have a smaller clubhead and are designed to launch the ball lower. They also have KBS Tour shafts, I'm not sure whether the standard R9 do. Maybe a difference in grooves as well?

Yes. Less forgiveness. We high handicappers usually can't hit like lowers or pros, so our club head is usually bigger than tp,hence more forgiveness. Tp version gives you more workability. I believe lofts are same on r9 and tp. Your r9 is very good club. I almost bought your club but got callaway x24 hot. X24 hot felt little bit heavier and I did have r9 draw and wanted to try callaway. So far i love it. My friend also has your club and I use them often... I like em both, r9 just felt littlbit lighter (uniflex vs r flex?) and it was definitely easier to hit x24s long irons than r9 but what do i know, Im just a newbie. Dustin Johnson is famous for using r9 tp due to his unfortunate grounding at 18th hole @ PGA. Also Rocco Mediate was famous for using non tp version of x-20 and x-22 and this is the guy who almost beat tiger head to head back in 2008 and he was using x-22 non tp version. Hope this helps

Yes you are extremely helpful. I will see how hard of a time I have using it. If it is that much of a difference Ill just sell it on ebay and purchase the right one.

Didn't have r9 draw, I had R7 draw. X-24 was $100 cheaper than r9 so this was a big factor. Got a 60 wedge with that $100 lol

It is about the same as in the last bounce question thing ...... if you would visited the Taylormade website a few minutes, you would have known the exact differences, without everyone guessing for the differences.........

TP has a loft of 47* and more weight behind the ball by design, smaller head, conforming grooves, less offset (TP stands for Tour Prefered .... wthatever this really means, most of times things called TOUR aren't for tour .....)

But in the end I would say .... you now have a PW that has different "caracteristics" then your let's say 9 iron, if I were you I would send it back or exchange it for the standard R9 in your case !
