which should i get. I hit 3 wood sweet as a nut most of the time and at my course a bad lie is very rare because the rough is really short. the greens are quite small compared to some courses. I had a 19º Taylormade burner hybrid before and i hated it and the one i have got just now is a stiff so it isn't right for me so im looking for some advice

maybe look at getting a SW?
PW-60* is a big gap.

Personally, I don't do well with woods in any sort of taller grass so a hybrid is an easy choice, for me. Versatility is the key..you can play them off the fairway and out of the rough and never have to think about it. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that a hybrid is not "wood" but an iron so play it like one.

My philosophy on golf "We're not doing rocket science, here."

i have a 50º i did have a 56º but never needed it that much as im very crafty with my 60º and can hit most types of chips with it

Which club do you hit better with? That's the important thing. Why carry a club if you never use it because you don't have any confidence in it.

but for full shots you should have a 54/56 degree wedge.

you've got space for one.

Other than balls and a putter, there are no "shoulds" in filling a golf bag.

possibly but im ripping out my 19º hybrid because its too stiff and im not sure what to replace it with and i dont want to reshaft as the head is 5 years old and want a new club

19" Hybrid is easier for me to hit. Therefore, I would choose hybrid over 5 wood. However, the choice is all yours.

In my Grom bag:

Driver: 909D2 10.5"
Irons: AP1 4-9
3 Wood: 909F2 15.5"Hybrid: 909H 19"Wedges: spin milled: PW, 52", 58", 62"Putter: California Coronado 33"Ball: Pro v1x

Don't change your wedge setup, adding another wedge would be dumb.

I would sugest a hybrid, since the shaft on hybrids are shoter they will be easyer to hit out of the rough. Or you could do what I did for a little while. Get a 5 wood, cut the shaft so it's better to hit out of the rough. But 90% of the time, a hybrid will still be better to hit. A 5 wood will always go longer if they are the same lofts. Depending on the shaft the a 5 wood will also usually go higher aswell.

go to a demo day and try different things out and see how you like each one.

Driver: 909D3 8.5* Diamana White Board X
3 Wood: MP 630 15* GRAFALLOY PROLAUNCH RED X

adding a SW is dumb?

In all fairness us higher handicappers would be a lot lower if our wedge game was better, not if we can try launch a 5 wood going for a par 5 in 2. he can still get a new hybrid/wood for his set.

I would try both clubs out I dont like hybrids and carry a 5 wood instead and find this alot easier to hit than any hybrid I have had and I have had a few

I went through this same exact decision at the beginning of the summer. I was filling a gap between my 3W and 3I. I decided to go with the hybrid for the versatility. Off the fairway or tee, I didn't see much of a difference. Out of the nasty Bermuda rough we have here in the South, the hybrid was the clear winner. I went with the Cobra Baffler Rail H and couldn't be happier. I like the rails to help in the rough and was more comfortable with the club off the fairway then I was with the TM Raylor. After about 10 rounds with the club (I avg. 2-5 swings per round with this club), I couldn't be happier. Fills the gap between between my 3W and 3I perfectly and is great in any lie.

What's in my Titleist Lightweight Cart Bag that sits on my Clic Gear 3.0 Push Cart:
Driver TaylorMade Tour Burner 10.5° Fujikura SuperFast Stiff
3W TaylorMade Burner 15° TM REAX Stiff
Hybrid Cobra Baffler Rail H 19° Fujikura Motore Stiff
Irons TaylorMade  R7 3-PWWedges Cleveland CG14 52°.10 and...

I would go with the 19*H. I had a 5w and couldn't hit it very well. The hybrid was a lot better for me out of the rough and the fairway.

From "tall" grass I'd probably take my lumps and hit more a 5-iron or less. With a hybrid or 5-wood out of the rough, I tend to over swing and hit a big hook or undercut it and hit a popup to the right.

BTW - other than shaft length, I hit my 5-wood and 19.5* hybrid with essentially the same swing - my 2-iron swing.

not really. he should practice his ballstriking. i need to practice my ballstriking. pretty much everybody i see on a golf course should practice their ballstriking. how about hitting the 5 wood off the deck? and why would adding a wedge make his wedge game better? he still needs to hit it...

One thing to consider is how far you hit the ball overall. I stayed with a 5W because it goes about 15 yards longer than the 19* to 21* hybrids. This is probably related to a slightly longer shaft.

It depends on your distance needs, and of course, which one you hit best.

Last week I compared my 5W vs. a 19* TM Raylor on a launch monitor. Raylor went about 10 yds. less, but was much straighter. (5W seems to have a draw face, and I end up near the green in the left rough if I'm not careful)

So, I'm monitoring my "discretionary income" for a possible October upgrade

    • Day 21 - Good session with driver and 6i. Hitting real golf balls is quite a bit different from the foam balls, still getting used to that change.
    • There are so many videos comparing and contrasting everything that I am both overwhelmed and more than a bit skeptical. Your comments above are much more valuable than hours of you-tube videos. Generally speaking, I’d much prefer to read something that someone took the time and trouble to write (such as your comments) than a bunch of videos, or worse, meaningless reviews that seem like they are all cut and paste selections of the same script. I’m more of a RTFM type than a watcher of “instructional” videos. By way of explanation, I don’t watch TV either.  So thanks - I’ll take that under advisement. I have an H3 that I bought for $10 that I’ve been carrying around but not sure why. Seems like a cool club, but I just don’t really know what to do with it.
    • I was using the window as a mirror. Just trying to be a more aware of the feels for a better backswing. Trying to not be as closed from A1 to A2. Then not letting the club head flip inside. What I was feeling was a pressure my right wrist, and like the palm of my right hand was pushing upward against the grip of the club. My right hand was the underside of the swing path.  Going to play around with this a bit more. It looked pretty decent with mirror/window work. Just wanted to jot it down.
