Make yardage books for courses they are going to play? I use a laser on the course when i play but sometimes alot of courses have valleys and blind spots that you cant laze. So when i am work i create yardage books useing the scorecard and google earth. then i print them out, bind them and laminate them. I had a gps at one time but i like the laser better and i dont feel like carrying both around because i always walk. And then i use a grease pencil to make notes on the card for future reference, I do this alot because i am always playing different courses and I think it helps me out on tournaments.

This sounds really cool.
Do you like print off each hole and mark certain distances at landmarks? Im a newb when it comes to google earth so how do you get exact measurements?
My course in Australia doesnt even zoom in fully, apparently they havent done the satellite for us up close!

This sounds really cool.

Download google earth (it is free) and zoom into your course, i can get very close to each hole with very good detail. Google Earth has a ruler on it that you can change to yards, then just draw a line from the tee box to any area on the hole and it will give you the exact distance in yards. It is very usefull on courses with alot of doglegs, rivers that go through the fairway, and fairway bunkers.

there used to be a free app for the BB that used info like this and would act like a gps. i inserted a few of my favorite courses. then my work gave me a new BB that didn't have gps, so the app won't work. (plus the app was a bit flaky)...

i liked the yardage books that this person makes: http://www.riverridgefairways.com/index.htm

it includes my fav course.

In my Grom Stand bag:

I have done it but never actually printed it off. Are you saving the image as a power point and adding your distances to that?

I have an app like that for my andriod phone, but you cant use phones in tournaments. I like to practice the same way i would play competitively

I copy the hole from google earth, then i paste it to MS paint. I then cut the hole out and add my yardages and print.

I can't say that I've ever gone as far as the OP (especially not a work), but I have gone on Google Earth and done some measuring. It can give you a pretty good indication of how far you normally hit the ball. For me though, I need to have played a course to be able to make any sense out of the picture on Google Maps (which kinda strikes me as odd because I'm a visual person, but whatever).

Can't say I have. Do you have a smartphone such as an iphone or android based HTC? You could just spend £20 on golfshot or a similar product?

This is interesting, I use Google for course scouting but... The yardage measurements you mention can not be accurate because the actual tee markers are never visible with the satellite resolution you get with casual Google Earth. I can usually determine where the tee boxes are but the actual markers are never consistently placed in the same locations so when using the measurement ruler you have to approximate. I looked at the higher level Map products from Google but I couldn't determine if they offer better resolution to be able to see the markers.

It ain't bragging if you can do it.

I too use Google Earth to scout the course, I have a small note book that I make notes in for the course.

haha, I do the same thing.

Google earth my course, use the "ruler" function to measure off distances/draw lines on the hole, print screen, paste into PPT, then print. works well.

and I do it at work too. lol
