Did Tiger ruin his swing my training to hard

Seriously.... Tiger Woods won 6 tournaments last year! Between then and now...well we all know what happened. I think that has been more than enough to screw up his golf game. Yea his swing was messed up...Yea he was playing mediocre...All because his mind was messed up due to what he was enduring off the course. I dont understand why people want to make this into the demise of Tiger.

I don't know if gaining the extra weight was the cause. But the 2000 Tiger had so much confidence and power. I agree that we will never see anything like that again. I have to say though, his amatuer swing thru '97 was the greatest I've ever seen. I was watching an old partner game when he was a rookie. He was with Arnold and I think they were playing against Davis Love and Tom Lehman. That day he was as close to perfect as a golfer can be.

Yeah.... time found him out. It had to happen. We were all conned. He won a handful of tournaments, but you knew it was gonna happen. He became a nobody because he's a "swinger". In fact, I never rated him and I'm not sure if he was any better than a few hundred other players out there. I remember watching him in the Australian Open here in 1996. I said "This guy's a swinger. He won't last" People laughed at me, but I was proven right. It took 14 years, but I'm right. Not sure what happened to him between about 1997 and 2009. Anybody know?

True, but that's why I said "in the end", i.e. he is suffering from the consequences of being a swinger, not felt at the time but leading to what we see. Obviously, I am referring to the predicament that he has put himself in with his "other" swing. He will likely do better from that perspective now that he can 'swing' away, since he has already demonstrated that this will not adversely affect his golf swing. He has shown that he has the determination and won't just rest on his laurels. He has his eyes on the prize, and perhaps seeks redemption with the big win, who knows ....

Shorty: I trust that you get my point now. Noone disagrees about his place in the pantheon of golf etc etc, and I also want to see him make it back to where he would have been if he hadn't screwed up his personal life as he did. It wasn't time that found him out, it was his wife.

Ah, but that's not what you said. You said it was the swinging (or "being a swinger") that ruined his swing, not the consequences. They're different things.

Here's my actual answer: Hank Haney. He was just so talented that even with that lousy move which required so much timing he could still pull out wins. He's become a terrible wind player and when he doesn't have the time to practice and groove the Haney timing, it falls apart.

I like your theory though Erik, makes a lot of sense. TW is fighting on more than one front, but he's a very determined fellow it seems. Of course that's what got him to the top of the hill - we'll see if it gets him back there.

That's what I said! I started a tread that basically said "Did Hank Haney ruin Tiger's swing?" And I said of course he did and many others disagreed. I still think Hank Haney does more harm than good for any golfer.

Tiger stated he changed his swing from 2000 so he could further his career and last when he was older. Well now he is older and 2011 will be a huge year for him. I think the only reason he changed his swing was because him and Butch were done and Hank didn't know how to teach Butch's swing. With that being said Tiger can adapt to almost anything he wants when it comes to golf.
