Hey all, I've seen a lot of people around here with putter customized by Kevin Colbert. I was thinking of getting mine customized with "victory" red paint fill around the grooves on the front. Perhaps initials engraved on it too, but I don't know.
Does anyone have any comments on this? He said it would be $25 to do the paint fill, but I'm curious about what you guys have to think, before I send my baby in for a paint job.
thanks in advance....

Why do you want to do this? Are you looking to match it with an overall look of your set?

search "paint fill" ono this site
it can be done for a quarter of $25 and is super easy to do

i wouldnt exactly call paint fill customization of a putter
start adding a different finish etc. and maybe you could justify a price

but dont waste your money on shipping for paintfill bro

no, just looking for somethin to make it unique to me...

here... I was thinking a red paint in between the grooves, could you (or anyone else) see it looking good. and would it last, as far as having paint on the putting surface itself? Nike Method Putter Face by jcollar6 , on Flickr

The grooves are filled with a polymer, aren't they? I don't think you want to put paint in there.

I think it looks great the way it is. If you personalize it you may not get as much money for it on trade or sale. I'd make sure you are going to keep it before you change it.

By "between the grooves" I assume you mean in the grooves, right? You wouldn't want to paint the metal I assume.

Unique to you? Like stamping?

the read nike is a tour only, and my suggestion would first be, get rid of everything nike, and second worry about spending that money on a lesson or something else to improve your swing first. You still gotta swing the club no matter how pretty your equipment looks.

wow that does look cool...

I don't know, I'm almost leaning towards just doing a different paint fill in the back, like where it says "method" or the swoosh. and yea, I'm still just thinking about it. just throwing some ideas up in the air right now.

I sent him my Rife Antigua for a high polish finish, red paint fill, V sight line, UST shaft, etc... He is the man! -Dan

That is a picture of the tour prototypes that Nike was giving to their players to test (you can tell by the Texas engraving on the bottom). The colored part is polymer, and I would be curious as to if the polymer itself is blue (or red in the case of the proto) or if they just paint it from the outside. If it is the former I would be a little more leery of painting it, but if it is the latter I don't see much wrong with painting it. Either way I'm sure Colbert will alert you beforehand if has has any reservations about it.

yea i'm not sure. Also, I don't know, but he said he(Colbert) won't be doing anythign to any putters to make them appear from the "tour"...dunno if this would literally count as making it look like a putter from the "tour", but yes, I'm sure he'd be aware of it assuming I do send it in for this.

I would imagine he just doesn't want to put "Tour" on a putter. Many good reasons for not doing so. Doubt a paint scheme or design element would be an issue.

That would be my guess too. He doesn't want to put "For Tour Use Only" on Scottys and such.

I see I see...

well, I'll be thinking about it. still want to make sure that I definitely want to keep it. hopefully I'll get something done by next season tho, whether it be stamping, new paint fill, or something with the grooves in front.

Mind you, he did not recommend specific club but rather to what consider and how to plan.  What a great day for course management education at the next level.
