wedge length question

So my clubs are nice & clean now. & as i leaned them against the wall i noticed my lw is longer than my sw & so on.
So my pw is my shortest wedge, lengthwise, & my lw is my longest. My pw is almost a full inch shorter than my 9i. Gotta phone the company tomorrow & put in a WTF request.
But, on the bright side that would explain why my gw wasn't covering the distance i was expecting.

There should be a graduation in all clubs of course. I have spoke with a fitter that suggested some folks liked the LW and SW the same length. But your set is way off for sure and distance control (among other things) will suffer. Take the set to a clubfitter and let him fix you up. This would also be a good time to have all the lie angles and loft checked. You would be very naive to assume these were in order after the disparity with other aspects of your clubs. To most folks surprise, this is not uncommon at all. We get a set of clubs and assume the lie and loft are correct just because we bought new clubs. In my experience, this is rarely the case. I say skip the factory and get the clubs professionally fit. Odds are good you will find many other specs off. Use this as an opportunity to pick out some new grips as well. A win-win situation if you think about it from the right perspective.

Yeah, that's weird. Generally you'll see about quarter inch length reduction each time as you move through the wedge set. Something like 35.5" for the gap wedge, 35.25" for the sand wedge and 35.00" for the lob wedge.

If you go online to the manufacturer's site, or can get a copy of the annual product catalog, you can find the specs for the clubs you have.

Some OEMs don't have very extensive archives - just the current model specs. If that's the case, you can e-mail the OEM and get the specs.

I e-mailed Callaway and got the specs for the X20 and X20 Tour models to findout the clubhead bounce; Callaway doesn't normally list bounce for its iron sets.

I just noticed the other day that my stock Cleveland 56° wedge is a full 1/2" longer than my stock Vokey 54°. I've only had the Cleveland for about a month and I had never looked at them side by side before. I wonder if that's why I prefer the feel of CG15? I don't use either for full shots, only for bunkers and greenside play (I only use the 54° for bunkers), so it isn't an issue of distance, just of ball striking. The CG15 just makes better contact and I get better results with it than I ever did with the Vokey 56° that I retired.

When I bought new wedges last spring I came down to a choice between Cleveland or Vokey. The Cleveland's were all 1/2" longer than their Vokey counterpart and the Vokey's fit better with the length of the Snake Eyes irons I built so I went with the Vokey's.

When comparing brands, not all companies measure length exactly the same way, inside a brand or set it should be consistent.

There is a school of thought in club design that does say all wedges from 48* or so on up should be the same length, but not all designers think that should be the case.

I have to append my earlier post. The first Vokey I bought was a 62* and that one was 1/2" shorter than the 62* Cleveland, but after looking at Cleveland's website I discovered the Cleveland graduates their wedge length differently than Titleist so that the 50* wedges are the same length and their 48* is actually 1/8" shorter. If I'd done more research before I bought my Vokey I'd have known that. So... there ya go.

I too am from the ilk that likes all their wedge shaft, pw, sw & lw, all the same length.

the length of the club is a matter of personal preference and won't affect your distances as much as the lofts will Chef. have a competant clubmaker/fitter check the lofts of all your irons to be sure they're set up properly.
