I hate my 3 hybrid, we have grown apart... I love my fairway woods like nobody's business and I hit my 4 iron really well. Should I go with a matching 3 iron or consider sticking a ping G10 7 wood in my bag. The only guys I know that carry a 7 wood are senior citizens which explains why I can only find them in a regular shaft used.....

I used Driver, 4w, and 7w for years. Worked great for my game. I recently got some hybrids and love them. Don't let any stereotypes effect your equipment. There are many folks employing a 7 wood, don't kid yourself. Loved mine, but find the hybrids easier to hit. Put a 7w in your bag and give it a try. Callaway Preowned may be a good place to look. Got most my clubs there. "like new" is brand new on that site. Tons of clubs to choose from.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think a 7 wood loft should be closer to a 4 hybrid BUT if you hit the same distance as the 3 and feel more comfortable with the 7 wood, it's a no brainer. =-)

Just keep a headcover on it that says 5. ;-P

I think the 7 wood is a tad more loft at 21.5 and the hybrid I have is 20. I would have 3 fairway woods if I put the 7 in with the 3 and 4. The 3 is 14 degrees and the 4 is 17 degrees. I may still put a 3 iron back however.

7 wood has been phased out by hybrids but if it suits your game then go ahead. What was the 3 hybrid that did not work out? I think if you are accurate with the 7 wood it can be much more versatile than the 3 iron.

I just do not seem to gel with it as of late. I hit it well a few times this year but it is visually unappealing and I have a tendacy hit it badly.

I see. If you don't want to give another hybrid a chance, check out Ping G15 for a 7 wood.

I bought a Callaway 7W a couple years ago because 1) I thought I'd hold more greens from range with the added loft, 2) it looked cool at the time somehow, and 3) I got some sort of a deal IIRC. I used it for a while but seemed to lose consistency so gave it up. Then I learned about the senior associations and now I'm even less inclined to try it again. This is silly, it's a perfectly good club and still looks cool imho - maybe I just need to use some Grecian formula at the same time.

I've got a taylormade r7 7 wood. Its 21 degrees. I hit it really well and just replaced my 3 iron with it. Its much easier to hit and goes a tad further than my 3 iron. I was thinking of going with a hybrid but this will work for now.

No it does not make you look old! My day is coming, I have tried a lot of the hybrids on the market and just don't like them, I call still hit a 3 iron, but one of my strengths is fairway woods. So I will not have a problem moving to a 7 wood when the time comes.

Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?

I LOVE my 7 wood. I'm young and there is no other club I can hit 200-210 and have it go high enough to stop. If the greens are soft it is like hitting a 200 yard wedge.

I tried a number of hybrids and utility clubs, nothing compares to me. I get away with alot and I'm not scared of going long on a 200 yard hole. I have a 5 wood that I had to take so much off of to hit 200 and it didn't go high.

I can't speak highly enough of mine. I'm not a short player by most standards and it has just made the long shot easier to control.

I have a 5 wood, 19 deg loft, rcx(matches my 3 wood). I took it out of the bag months ago, i couldnt even hit it as well as my 3 wood and I hit it very inconsistently. I prefer to hit my 20 deg 3 hybrid for all longer shots of 200+ yards, even hit the green from just over 200 yards yesterday on an approach shot after a terribly topped driver that went maybe 100 yards and made par. I use the 3 hybrid pretty much exclusively for approach shots on par 5's, usually puts me at least inside of 100 and sometimes inside of 50 yards as most par 5's arent all that long around here, probably just under 500 yards on average. Ive never had a 7 wood, but i also have a 4 hybrid and 5 hybrid so i dont see a use for one for me. I guess its what you get used to, and the hybrids work for me but for some a 7 wood is just a better option.

I would consider a G15, it is just that I love my G10's so much I thought I would stick with them. Maybe I can find someone that has the 7.5 loft driver and the 7 wood......something tells me it will be unlikely.

I am starting to not feel so bad about the idea although I am interested to try a matched 3 iron too.

Don't let what others might think about your clubs affect what you choose to hit with. My best golf buddy is 29, and the best club in his bag is his 7 wood. I've seen him put it onto the green from a fairway bunker at 210, blast a 2nd shot onto a par 5 green from 220+, and choke up and swing easy and hit the green on a par 3 from 195. Whatever you hit best, go for it.

I used this combo for years also, my Fybrid is not hugely different from my old 7wood. When I was just barely long enough to reach par 5s in 2 the wood was a much better choice, it got just enough higher that I could carry it just short or just on a green and have it stop, which I could not do with a 3wood. It amuses me when posters say only seniors use a 7woood. Years ago I watched Scott Gutchewski, ( maybe mispelled) then in college play a round. He has spent the last few years between the PGA and nationwide tours. He was scary long in those days and he pulled out a 7 wood 2 or 3 times and just nailed during that round. Annika used a strong 4 wood 7wood combo for most of her career. Very few of us hit our driver as far as she did. Unless you are a high ball hitter, or like to work the ball a lot a seven wood may your best choice.

There is a lot to be said about the ego of a golfer. Lord knows the marketing groups of the OEMS sure know it. In the end it's all about what fits you and your game. I had to fight the urge to buy the AP2's only because I didn't want others to point at the AP1's in my bag and say "game improvement". I was fortunate to be able to demo both sets for an extended period and although the AP2's felt a little better it wasn't worth the extra $200 dollars. And my scores didn't change from one set to the other so what would have I gained by going with the AP2's? To further the concept after a full season with the AP1's I decided to compare the 3 and 4 irons to the Titleist 21* and 24* hybrids. I took the clubs to the range and spent quite a bit of time looking at distance, shot dispersion, and trajectories and looking at the data the hybrids were a bit longer and straighter than the iron equivelant. So now I have them in the bag. A while back I had someone at my club look at my set and actually called me a Titleist poser because I had two hybrids and 5-GW AP1's. This was coming from a guy that couldn't break 90. I never heard any comment like that coming from the low handicappers at my club.

So the bottom line is if the shoe fits wear it. And tell anyone that says otherwise to take a flying leap. The game is tough and expensive enough to not enjoy and don't let silly pride get in the way. If the 7 wood fits your game better, then you would be a fool to consider anything else.

Valley you dont need the 7w to look old. That happens allready :P...

But seriously im 23 I almost bought a 7w until I learned how to hit my 5i better.

I am sort of old already....:p but I play young! I am a high ball hitter and do not necessarily need to get it up in the air, but I might be a little more consistent with the 7 than the 3 iron. I guess I can kick the ideas around all winter.
