I find myself looking for golf deals during this time of year. Not really buying Christmas gifts for anyone. I'm just trying to take advantage of Christmas specials. Do any of you find yourself spending more on golf equipment/accessories this time of year?

As I get more into golf I find older gear attracting my attention. I find myself looking at Play it Again SPorts, the local pawn shops, and thrift stores for older gear that can be had for little money.

no more than the rest of the year

Enis750 = Sandtrap's voted most likely to change irons 4 times in a year.

The Callaway Preowned site has "Deal for Days" this time of year. Every 2 days is a different sale. "Like New" is brand new on that site for anyone not familiar. Got all my clubs there this time last year. If the X proto irons go on sale, it will be hard for me to resist. There are about 4-5 more days of sales. 30% off this, 25% of that, etc.. it is a great way to get deals on Callaway clubs.

One of the current deals is 25% off FT Tour Drivers...

Ya Callaway pre-owned is so legit, I bought my 4 and 5 FT hybrids here "like new" for $100 a piece back when they were like 180 new.. I wish I liked odyssey putters b/c they have some good deals on those.

This is the time of year I buy experimental additions to the bag so I have time to do some indoor practicing and adjustments. Just picked up a SC KOMBI, first mallet putter I've ever bought so I'm perfecting that, indoors, thanks winter...

I bought a used macgregor blade 2 iron at my local goodwill for 50 cents! Not going in my bag, but it's just something to practice with.

Better make that 5 or 6 times.

    • Several years ago I got paired with a twosome of golfers, one of which had a maybe 5-year-old son with him. The kid had a putter and a 7i with him, and on some holes he would drop a ball near the green, chip on, and putt. If the kid started to get distracted, the dad would ask, "Do you need to rest?" The kid would nod yes, and then take his dad's seat riding in the cart for a couple of holes. It was a slow day, and the kid was polite and friendly. We got through 18 just fine. (If it had been a crowded course day, I'm sure it would have been less pleasant.)
    • Caution for the seniors on weight training: Listen to your body. (I'm 75) I got a recent session with an orthopedist after a training-related injury. I put too much weight on a new resistance machine at the gym and ended up with bursitis in my left hip. Of course, it's the hip I dislocated back in 2023. I have my first physical therapy session tomorrow. I remarked that some days I can do 45 lbs. chest press - two sets - without much effort. But other days it drops down to 30 (😩) with just one set. (Complicating factor: I had digestive problems in this fall and lost about 20 lbs., with slip in muscle tone.) Orthopedist said that I want to feel some resistence, but that I should go with lots of reps with manageable weights rather than trying to set some sort of lift-pound record. I'm sure I'll get some refinements on lifting during tomorrow's PT.
