i am thinking of ordering up some Scratch wedges, but cant decide by pics what they are similarily shaped like
they say its a "traditional" shaped head.....well what the hell is that?

Old Cleveland, New Cleveland, Vokey, Nike, Mizuno....what?

I prefer a wedge w a straighter leading edge, not rounded, a more square toe, not rounded
basically the SV Tour's i have now is a shape that i like, or a Vokey-weight too
but they are getting worn and grooving a nice wear spot in the middle of the wedge
time to replace

anyone who owns or has seen a Scratch 8620 wedge in real life, can you help me compare it?
even have pics beside another wedge to how me?
im not one to buy a wedge without knowing what it feels like or is shaped like
these are my scoring clubs, so i need to be confident in them

thanks for your help

Temptation to make club-ho jest is rising :)

Looks quite a bit like the Vokeys I'm playing in overall shape. I have no idea how 'traditional' in defined, however the shape of the Scratch wedge fit's my eye just fine.

I don't particularly care for the shiny finish though, but I bet it's a great feeling wedge.

I have read some great reviews from folks using Fourteen and Miura wedges. Might want to check out their websites as well if you are searching for new wedges.

yea i saw your posts on Miura wedges too

they look sick a little out of my price range tho i have an opportunity to get some new 8620 Scratch wedges for $170 shipped, which normally would cost me about $240 shipped but still not sure about it the 1018's have a shape i like a bit more i think (more sqaure leading edge and toe), a smoke satin finish instead of chrome still not sure what to do tho

Buy 'em all. The kids don't need new shoes. They can go barefoot. It's good for their feet.

Sounds like the good old Volvo ownership days. Thank god those are gone. Are you looking to add a 60, or replace all your wedges?

i have a 2009 Dodge 1500 truck w a bent left axel and missing a right rear track bolt

track bolt a result of a mod shop doing a poor job taking out my lift kit (another warranty issue) and the bent axel a result of a hit and run i was in last year, that was never fixed....now i get to fight w my insurance company about that one....fun fun just the 60 really needs replaced, but you know i have ADD and couldnt possible have mismatching wedges D ;) really i dont NEED anything right now, as im a few months away from golf anyways the 60 i have now is just fine for indoor practice sessions ill see what my insurance company says about the bent axel

I ordered a scratch 56* to replace my SV tour. And I like the scratch, don't get me wrong, but I did switch back to the SV tour, because I like the black finish, and it had a bit lower bounce than the scratch. Lots of commas in the previous sentence.

sounds like you ordered the wrong grind and bounce on your Scratch wedge then, right?

i just dont want to have the same thing happen to me....(and im sure it will) order it up all stoked to get them and end up going back to the SV i LOVE the SV wedges, they spin a ton, have good weight, nice head shape think im talking myself backinto keeping the SV's might get the 56 bent to a 55 tho and replace the 60

What happened to the greatest wedge in the history of the game? You know, that other wedge you had, the what was that again?

Apparently someone doesn't understand the purpose of club ho-ing.

Yeah, I only have wedges from MacGregor, Mizuno, Cleveland, Ram, Spalding, Wilson Staff, Northwestern, Ben Hogan, and Titleist. Nothing remotely exotic or "hot listed". I'm so lame.

It was a joke man :)

My point was that rationality/sound reasoning aren't necessary when matters of club hoing are concerned. I've got a basement full of 'the best/must have' as well, and a laundry list of 'to own' clubs.

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
