What's the best scrambling par you've ever made?

About 3 rounds ago, 401 yard par 4.

It was raining quite heavy and I slipped on the tee box at impact, with 3 wood  and duffed it about 20 yards into long rough in front of junior tee box.

It was sitting kinda high in the grass so decided to hack it out with my hybrid, caught it well but ended up in right rough about 115 from the green, hit a pure sky wedge that landed about 30 foot from pin and drained the left to right down hill breaker for par.

I have quite a few scrambling pars in my life which are worthy of the Tin Cup highlights DVD. Not sure if this is the best one, but it was the most controversial.

I was playing in a best-ball tournament down in Texas. We had a medium-length par 3  featuring a long narrow terraced green. Pin was about 10 feet onto the green. I hit a super-thin iron shot that landed 10 feet past the cup and rolled up well onto the back terrace.

I had a 50-foot putt, and was a little strong coming downhill and rolled it off the front of the green. I then took an 8 iron, and chipped in for par.

Here comes the controversy. People who chipped in on any of the par 3 holes were supposed to win a dozen golf balls. After the round, some people objected that I really hadn't chipped in, because of my first putt. Anyway, the tournament organizer said they would clarify the rules for next years, but that I had chipped in and should win the dozen balls.

Everything's big in Texas, I guess. (Edit: grammar errors)

I had a good'n last year at a tournament.

par 3, 177 yards. Pushed it right into trees beside green ( dense bush )...found it and punched it to high grass verge on top of a bunker, right side of the green. Chipped in from there ( about 40 feet )......I was lucky, it broke around 12 foot and it was moving...it hit the pin with a loud CLANK and in it went for par

Playing a shortened par 4 from the ladies tee as the mens was being re-seeded. Wasn't sure what club to hit to stay short of the massive dam in front of the green/right of the fairway.....

Hit hybrid, no bounce, straight in.

Dropped it on the fairway, 100m PW to 3 feet. Par 4 :)

That's about the lamest controversy I've ever heard.  Of course you chipped in.  Shame on them for even bringing it into question.

My best scramble was a frustrating Par-5 dogleg left.  You can get to it with Driver, 8-iron, but it takes a pretty good shot.  When I bring my B game, I usually play a little draw off the right side of the fairway  with a long iron and then either lay-up or go at it depending on how hard the fairways are running.  This particular day I played my draw as usual but underestimated the headwind.  It turned just a little too much and ended up on the left edge of the fairway with no look at the flag and low hanging trees ahead.  I needed to advance the ball about 75 yards and end up above a landing area before a creek and short of the trees that guard any look at the green whatsoever.  I hit a little 4-iron punch-chip kind of shot under the branches, right line, just hit it too solid .  It rolled through the dogleg and all I could see was trees.  Now I had about 160 yards uphill, big wind from the right, and I needed to cut it about 100 yards in the air to get around the trees.  I only managed about 50 yards of cut, and it put me long and left, about 80 yards from the stick.  From that angle, the pin is on the edge of the green, runs away steeply, and ends in about a 60 degree slope and 40 foot drop to a creek.  Also, you can only see the top of the flagstick.  And, I had an awkward stance, and the lie was extremely tight.  I put it to about 4-feet, leaving a slick, downhill left-to-righter.  Now, mind you, I'd been going through a particularly crappy putting phase, so this was my last chance at a par.  And I made it.

Last year at the 11th hole at Deer Run during the Peninsula Amateur.  11 is about 400 yds, par 4, about 30 degree dogleg right, trees right off the tee till about the 200, bunkers and woods left, and a big-ass pond right in front of the green (handicap 2 hole).  I usually like to just plunk a 2-iron down to about 150-170 out and then get on with a short iron (in the summer anyway, I lose 20+ yards per club when the weather gets cold).  Anyway, I lose my tee shot a little right into the rough, about 160 out.  Pin is WAY up front, so I've got no more than 150 out of a flyer lie.  I decide to put the turbo boost on a 9-iron and it flies at least 50 yards over the pin, about 20 yards behind a 100ft tall pine tree.  Ball is kinda sitting up in the rough, so I open the blade on my 60, swing as hard as I can, pop it straight up over the tree, and the ball lands no more than 2 ft.  Routine par.

490 par 5, dogleg right, pond in front.  drove it 220, but into the woods right.  skanked one across the fairway into the left rough, 150 to the green.  skanked another one out of the rough, still 95 out.  holed a sand wedge.  ho hum birdie.

I've got two that are my best.

1) 13th Hole 370 yards dead straight to a hole that was on a hill with a 4 foot slope into deadly rough all around. I sliced my drive into the left rough, about 170 yards out. It had a decent lie, so I took a shot with my 4H. The ball got out of the rough, and then back in. Just as the ball was about to clear the rough, it nailed a tree, flinging it into some very thick rough, about 40 yards away. It had a horrible lie and I had to get it over a slight hill. Took my SW out and swung aggressively. Surprisingly, the ball made excellent contact and landed about 35 feet from the hole on the fringe. One lucky one putt later, and I had myself an excellent par!

2) 15th Hole 130 yards downhill. At this hole, you're a good 50-60 feet above the flagstick. I topped a shot with my 8I, landing it about 80 yards in the right rough. It wasn't too bad, having an okay lie. with about 60 yards to the hole. Decided to go with a PW that ended up coming short, dropping the ball into a greenside bunker, just 15 yards from the hole. Now was the tough part. I only had 15 yards to the hole, but had to get it over the lip of the bunker; about 1-1.5 feet high, plus I was about 2 feet away from it. I took out my 64* wedge, having no SW at the time. (not that I'd use one in that case either). So I took the shot and what do you know, it gets out and lands about 2 feet from the hole and rolls right in.

I have 2, both from last year:

Hole 2 @ my home course - was playing about 165 yards this day (tournament)

-chunked...yep chunked my tee shot about 100 yards in the WET rough waay short of the hole

-tried to hit a high soft shot on the green as the pin was up on the second tier and being short was not an option...it went another 20 yds

-im still 45 yds away, same lie as the last shot...tried the same shot - it hit, bounced once and rolled in

Hole 10 @ my home course - 495yd par 5 dead into a 35+ km/hr wind (tournament)

-hit my tee shot a bit right in the what i thought was the first cut

-get to my where my ball should be..not there

-5 mins of looking and im running back to the tee - w 1 group waiting and about 25 people watching

-tee it up again and it goes to the same spot but my playing partners had it located when i got there

-big arse headwind, so i was still about 225 into this green - hit 5w

-left myself about 25 feet....drained the putt for Par

Mine(in recent memory)would have to be a chip I had on a par-3. I overshot the green, and there is water behind and right of the green. The is a mound, and I caught a good break and it is sitting about a foot away from the water. I play my favorite shot to hit on an up hill lie, and I smack straight down on the ball, without coming through, and it goes up, hits the pin and falls about a foot away, leaving a tap-in for par.

Most recent was a par 3 where I put the tee shot in a greenside bunker, blasted out, then nailed a 30 foot putt for the par save.  Not all that exciting in an absolute sense, but when sand saves are as rare for you as they are for me...

Most memorable was last year at Angeles National.  On the 6th hole (15th of the day since we started on the back), a 364-yard par 4, I topped my 3-wood off the tee into some rough stuff.  Hit a 4-iron back to the fairway.  It was a good lie, as I recall it was somewhat down in a little valley and the green was well above.  The grounds crew had a mower and/or green roller up there, so there were a few people just off the green.  Normally this is a death sentence for my next shot: I don't handle spectators well.  This time, though, I thought to myself, "Good, an audience for what's going to be a great shot," and stuck a 7I to 2 feet and tapped in for par.  That was awesome.

Sadly, they didn't applaud.  Still, it was nice to have a shot like that on the most expensive round I've ever (and perhaps ever will) play.

I dunno, since his chip was technically a putt, I can see why there might be some controversy.  I think they made the right decision, since it was both a chip and a putt, though.

Playing in a junior golf tournament many many years ago. Players waived me on to the par 3 to hit. Ball was on target but going long past the green, I screamed fore but one of the kids instead of ducking behind a tree ran right into the ball. Hit him square on the shoulder and the ball went additional 30 yards. I was upset the kid ran into my ball but got up in down for three. My day was saved.

I was playing a dogleg right when I snapped one left into a lake. I dropped on an uphill lie with 210 to the green. Hit 3 iron to five feet and made it for par. Nice.

350 yard par 4, hit drive well but hit tree just short right of the green, ball bounce straight back leaving about 190 yards. Hit 5 iron, just short, plugged in trap. Blasted plugged ball, caught lip on trap and rolled back in. Hit the perfect shot, slam dunked into the cup.......

mine was on a 160 yard par 3. I hit a dead shank into the next fairway, and left myself with about 60 yards no green and about 100 trees to deal with.  I hit a high lob with my 58 degree wedge and it landed on the bank in the rough about 5 yards short and bounced in between two trees and rolled to 6 feet where I drained the putt for a par.  I felt like Phil Mickelson with the wedge mastery from the trees, and it was a par I will never forget.

A 600 yard par 5. Hitting 3 from 240 yards out. I nice little drawn 3 wood (this was in the persimmon days) that rolled past the flag to the back fringe. 2 putts for a par.  May not sound too impressive, but if you'd seen the first two shots on that hole, you'd have bet the farm against me making par.
