If so, which one. And which ones have you tried? I have tried some of the free ones, but definitely not what I'm looking for. I hear there are some good (cheap) ones out there.

I got paired up with 3 doctors on a course by me one time when I went out alone when my friend backed out the last minute.  The one I rode with had a droid like mine and asked if I had the SkyDroid app.  He was astonished I loved golf and didnt have the app.  Its only $0.99.  You have to download courses but I have yet to find a course not on there.  If the course you are looking for isn't on there you can just go online and map it yourself (I have yet to need to do that although).  It will give you distances to the back, middle and front of green as well as the pin.  Also distances to any traps, water and hazards on the hole.  You can hit the zoom out button and get an ariel view of the entire hole or even the entire course.  Once you download the course its on there for good and one cool feature is next to the name of each course is a phone symbol that you touch and it dials the pro shop to set up a tee time.  I really love everything about it.  Best $0.99 Ive spent on my golf game.

I have the golflogix app on my evo, and i just set my phone to disable video and pop up ads while its being used - the free version had ads built into it.

I'm trying the golflogix app on my Samsung Intercept, but found the popup ads unacceptable. How did you disable them? (Probably different for my phone, but it might give me a clue...)

Thanks.

I've tried a few, GolfCard is by far my favorite.  GolfCard is 9.99 i think, and there is a smaller fee to get an account on ushandicap.  Golfcard does everything, tracks shots, distances (with club and swing strength), etc.  The reason i went back to golfcard after a brief trial with golflogix is that with golfcard you can get a satellite view of the course and easily get the distance to any spot.  So i can touch where the pin is on the green and get a much more accurate idea of how far I have to go.  Or i can touch the bunker and I know what I need to clear it.

I liked the putt tracking on golflogix better, though.

I have been using SkyDroid and I like it OK. I actually had to go in and re-map my local course because whoever did it was off by a few yards on the front/middle/back markers. Only took about 20 minutes to do the whole course. I have, however, found it to be off by 6-7 yards compared to my Sky Caddie. I also don't like that I can't keep scores and stats on it. They said they were working on that (according to their website) but I haven't seen any updates recently.

Might have to check out that Golf Card.

Pardon the intrusion but... I still use windows mobile 6.5 and use freecaddie (available on droid) and golf gps by gudensoft...  For my score I use office excel.  Free caddy is pretty good, both the apps are very similar to each other.

Not trying to hijack (it is GPS related), but has anyone used the Garmin S1?  It looks very cool, but I do not play with a watch on now and wonder if it is obtrusive.

I have also been using the golflogix app on my droid and i think it works quite well. Before I bought my droid I would just bring my laser rangefinder that I bought for hunting. The yardage that golf logix gave me would always match up with what my rangefinder, so it seemed pretty accurate.

another cool thing about golf card is that it tells you how accurate it is, ie. within 2 yards or 7 yards (only when there's bad reception).  2-3 yards is pretty typical and it matches pretty close with the markers on the course.

It used to sync with oobgolf, which was free and its a great community.  a lot of people stopped using it when they switched to ushandicap.  But the nice thing about the switch is ushandicap has official usga clubs, online, so you can get an official handicap.

I have both SkyDroid and Golf Card on my Droid.  I like the simplicity of Sky Droid - bigger numbers/display, but Golf Card is a better program, frankly.  Like was mentioned, you can literally pick any spot from the satellite view and know your distance.  With SkyDroid, you might get the distance to the major hazards if you're lucky.  That's because they depend on users to update the courses online.  If you know the course well, it's no biggie.  But if you are on an unfamiliar course?  Golf Card all the way.

Are all of these GPS driven yardages? I have a Samsung Epic through Sprint service which should be perfect for GPS use but the accuracy is awful for golf. I Spend most the time waiting for the phone to acquire satallite signal.  I would rather just be able to download a yardage book like the nicer resort courses used to hand out or that some sell. I'm mainly just looking for carry yardages and lay up distances. For the first time on Wednesday I played par 5's 2 under (3 birdies 1 bogey) The one bogey could have easily been a birdie or even an eagle but I miss judged the carry distance and plugged it in a bunker face.

I have the Sony Ericsson Xperia that runs on Droid 2.5 platform...i use FreeCaddie Pro (cost $9.99) and has almost all courses i'm looking for, only found one that wasn't mapped yet. is/has been accurate to the stick in the middle of the fairway for 150...i've held it side by side the marker throughout rounds and it's been all but one time incorrect (and that was off by a yard to the longer). Highly suggest it, especially if you're like me and GolfLogix hasn't made the app for my phone yet.

Just downloaded GolfLogix and Swing by Swing, and am excited to try out both.  Looks like GolfLogix has a lot more options though...

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
