I'm gonna get real familiar with this sand wedge!  I've got the 50° iron and then the sand wedge.  I could add a lob wedge but I'm gonna hold off for now.  Maybe one day I'll sell the sand wedge and get a 54° and 58°.  That would be cool.

If your SW was bent to 55, you'd have 50, 55, 60. Not too bad.

Anyway @ the OP, use whichever club works for you. In one set I use a 5-wood replacement hybrid, 3-wood and driver. In another set, the 3-iron is a cavity back (higher ball flight) so I just go straight to 3-wood, Driver.

Thanks Sean.  Good idea on the wedge combination.  I know one good player I talked to said 58° is really a sand wedge.

My 4-iron is a strong 23° so it's like a 3-iron.

I'll be looking to add a 3-wood back in after selling the '08 Burner I had to help pay for the R11 driver!

I use my 58 out of the sand. Was never able to really play my 56 effectively out of the sand(had it bent to 55) so now my wedge set up is 52, 55, 58 with a pw of 46. I thought about getting another 48 or 50 and bent to 49 but that would be overkill imo. Truth be told on the course I always play I could get by with just the 46 and 58, but I will playing other courses at some point so they are in the bag and every now and again make it out. Anyway just noticed this was a woods and hybrids forum. So ya I carry a 3 wood and 2 hybrids. 5 wood stays home for now.

You could go with a heavier shaft and a shorter length 3 wood, and I bet you'd get better results than your typical 3 wood - instead of 43.5 inches - try 42.5 inches Or go to 4 wood loft and a heavier shaft and shorter length . 42.25 inches. I typically start a hybrid at 21 inches -- below that loft, the ball flight is generally too low for me.

    • Day 33 (13 Dec 25) - Worked on weight shift and resetting the left heel during downswing (after listening to a discussion on Golf School this morning on PGA Tour Radio).  It centered on how Jack Nicklaus lifted his lead heel and how long driver champs do as well.  Taking cues from that discussion, worked an exaggerated feel of the left heel working doing some swing drill in the backyard using the 7i.  Wrapped up the session by hitting a few low bump and run shots in the backyard - keeping the process slow and exaggerated.
    • Day 123 12-13 Rotation and getting to lead side work. Recorded face on. Hit a few foam balls but did plenty of rehearsals today.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
