Putting works and so does going down in loft to a club with lesser bounce than the old sw, like a pw or 9i.

I occasionally use the leading edge of the SW, especially if downhill.  Using a putter with the hands well forward and a chipping motion and popping the ball up used to be called a Texas wedge I believe.  The use of hybrids and normal putter stroke as suggested can work, but I have trouble controlling distance with those.

It's an easier chip shot with a blade iron than an offset GI club because it's a bit harder to get a sixth sense where the leading edge is with offset irons. At least that's what I've found.

Also try putting the ball, but some people tend to over cook those sending them rocketing off the green into the rough, or they hit it like a wet noodle then face the same shot.

Personally I don't care for the Utley definitions of chipping and putting, but if you do use his methods this is not a lie for a pitch shot. If you don't, try a knockdown with a LW or a PW. Ball back in your stance. Just don't try it with money on the line.

The way i found the SW to work was to make sure my head doesn't budget at all. Keep it as quiet as possible, when i do this, i can usually clip the the ball of concrete. Any movement of the head up or down, your toast.

Depending on the situation I'll either go with putter, 7i, or my 3 hybrid.

IMO, if I'm trying to get it close for a near always tap in, I'll pull the putter. If I want a more aggresive line that is going straight for the hole, I'll pull 7i or hybrid depending on the distance to the hole and how much "fairway" I have to cover before I'm on the green. I'm sure many of you have heard this before but one thing I think about a lot, is something along the lines of this. Hit 10 putts from off the green, then hit 10 chips with a sandwedge (or some other high lofted club like that) compare you best putt to you best chip. There should be a quite a difference, if you dont see much there, compare you worst putt to you worst chip, almost every time your worst putt should still be close to if not better than the majority of your chips.

Just something to think about :)

Oh, and after a few weeks of playing (no more than 10 rounds), I've already nearly holed (lip outs ) 2 chips from just off the green, one was with the 7i from about 15 yards out, finished 2 inches from the hole. The other chip was with my 3 hybrid and ended up just a little bit to far right.

52 degree low bounce vokey, feet close together, ball just outside my back foot, hands well forward, arms welded to my chest, every thing square to my target line "dam those old ball flight laws"and rock my shoulders just like a putt and it goes in

If you need to get over something, trap or rough, then use a club with less bounce.  My gap wedge and lob wedge have less bounce than my sand wedge (which I use for most chipping).  If there is no trouble in front of you, then a lower lofted club as the folks above have noted.  I use the 7 or 9 irons depending on the amount of green or putter if it is very smooth off the green (which it is rarely at the courses I play).

If I can swing the putter back and through without it snagging on anything, and the ground is really flat, it's an easy decision, IMHO.

In my experience this is almost always caused by failure to commit to the shot, which leads to slowing down through impact and a breakdown of technique.  Chipping from tight lies is mostly a mental obstacle.  It is important to visualize the shot and have a good pre-shot routine, then to commit to hitting the ball just as you practiced it.  I've found it helpful to remind myself that a shot with poor touch or club selection but good technique will be far better than a skull or a chunk.  Also, replicate the lie by a practice green and just concentrate on making good contact.  It will build your confidence and provide a good mental image to draw in when you encounter the shot during a round.

i use my 60 degree wedge with 5* bounce and open it up. i also had that issue with chunking everything around the green with my 56, and realized my issue could have been the 12 degrees of bounce it had. having the lower bounce and higher loft really helped me, could do the same for you.
