What is the longest you have driven to play a round of golf in the same day? Last October, I drove 170 miles one way (2.5 hours) to play the New Course at Grand Cypress in Orlando. The New Course is a Jack Nicklaus signature tribute to the Old Course at St. Andrews. The round was a practice round that I played for someone who couldn't make it so it was free. Oh, it was worth the drive. The opening tee shot is a replica of the 1st/18th holes at the Old Course and the course is a unique experience especially for Florida.

In the mid-90s we used to drive from Edmonton, AB  to Vernon, BC in April so we could play in the BC interior (Okanagan - courses like Predator Ridge and Gallagher's Canyon) in mid-summer conditions. It was about 8 hours (depending on who was driving). We'd tee off in the afternoon after copious stretching.

The furthest I have drove was from Chicago to TPC at Deer Run, which is about 3 to 3 and a half hours depending on traffic out of the city.

When I go play with my father in law, it is a 2.5 hour drive each way, we go out there about once every 6-8 weeks.

Don't you mean "another" long drive thread? I actually thought that the title would invoke some negativity especially from some of the long time members who just love those kind of threads. Gotcha.

About an hour, I did not realize how far it was going to be before hand.  Turned out to be the worse course I have played thus far too..

162 miles round trip (2 hours each way) to play a round of golf at The Ranch in Southwick, MA.  Beautiful course, and since I had a free greens fee and cart for two, it was well worth the trip.

Playing partner drove, and paid for the gas, tolls, and lunch after the round.

3 or 3/12 hours, we drive from KC to Lake of the Ozarks to meet for a guys golf trip every couple of years, when we were young we drop in the night before to party, now we like to sleep in our own beds and drive in early in the morning, but we still play 2 rounds on the day we get there!

I really thought this thread would get a little more air time due to the title. The "How far can you hit a _____" threads seem to always do so well. Right now it seems that Sean Miller has the record at 8 hours, getting out of the car, and teeing it up.

4368kms  (2714mi) each way.  OK, OK, it was a family road trip to the coast, but i did drag my clubs along so I could play.  Two years ago, I flew and ended up running over the top of my travel bag with the rental car.  Bye-bye FTi.  We are driving again this summer (sigh), and the clubs get the sweet spot when we pack up the suv, of course.  We'll be staying in Canada for the entire trip this time, so it'll be around 4500kms.

I am on the verge of getting a mobile phone so I can accurately discover my yardages. It will be interesting. The trouble is, will I disapointed? I know I am not a long hitter.

    • We had a member of our senior club who developed a mental block on pulling the trigger. I played with him to see what the membership was talking about. I timed him a few times when he would get over the ball. 45 seconds. He knew he had a mental block and would chide himself, “Just hit it!” Once on the green he was okay and chipping was a bit better. It was painful to watch him struggle. Our “bandaid” was to put him in the last tournament  tee time with two understanding players. We should have suggested to him to take a break from our tournaments. I agree with the idea that when a player realizes they have a problem, the answer is to go fix it and not return until they are able to play at an acceptable pace.
