Hi, I entered this site about 2 month ago. I live in south korea. Same as K.J. Choi.

At the start of this year, I bought Stack and Tilt Swing text. I think the concept of this book is "the Goal of Golf ".

After reading the book, I go to range and practice the S&T; swing by myself. after two month of practice, I go to the golf course with this swing. This pictures are practice swing  waiting the tee shot for short hall.

By now, I think I have problems

1) takeaway- don't retaining pp4 , late cocking

2) overswing- because of don't retain pp5, overflex of right elbow, therefore early casting

First of all, I appreciate all of this forum, especially Iacas, Zeph, Stretch, Mvmac  ........

Please forgive my poor English, english is not my mother language.

Without a ball you really get very little real information from these photos.  Everyone has great practice swings.

It is hard to tell from the sequence but you appear to be flipping or casting.  The club should be forward leaning through impact.

Images 8 and 9 (number them next time) show the left wrist breaking, it should not.

Good Luck!

Welcome to the forum, I spent four years of my life in Korea (Yeosu and Seoul)--Korean food is my favorite.

Swing looks really good.  For a self taught S&T; swing, you are getting many things correct.  Agree-a video of a swing with a ball both DTL and face-on would be ideal.

Your swing has characteristics similar to some of Zeph's early swings--I'd recommend you send him a "PM" private message to take a look at your video swings.

Address position (P1)--Looks very good.  Your right hand grip might be a shade too weak relative to your left hand.  Have the "v" of your right thumb pointing somewhere between your neck and right shoulder.  I'd like to see your hands just a bit further forward at address (parallel to inside of left thigh)

(P2 and P3)-difficult to tell from the camera angle, but I think you are moving the clubhead straight back.  Try feeling that your left shoulder turns down and toward your right foot, thus there would be more down and in, instead of down and straight back.  I like the late right wrist hinging and left wrist cocking--wish I could do that.

(P4)-try keeping your left arm straighter.  Also, try to straighten your right knee some more.  You can see here that your left hip has shifted back.  Try feeling that your left hip moves forward during the backswing--imagine trying to sit your left gluteal area on a bar stool just in front of your left hip during the backswing.

(P5 and P6)--yep, you are correct; there is some loss of connection of the right arm to the torso and an early loss of right wrist hinge="casting"

This is set up in the backswing--try feeling that the backswing is just turning the shoulders down and in and a hinging of the right wrist and a cocking of the left wrist.  Arms "feel" passive.  At the top of the backswing, really feel pressure points pp1-pp5 as you feel you are pushing the club handle (grip) as far away from your shoulder as you can.  Then with the start of the forward swing, really push your hips forward and really straighten your legs

(P7and P8)--due to the earlier loss of connection of the right arm/torso and early loss of right wrist hinge, you have lost "lag" and have a flip going into impact and follow through

Thank you, uttexas & inthecup.

I will try your advice. And soon load full swing video.

Hi jackbear, welcome to the forum.

First a few notes on recording a swing. I suggest you read this article , which explains how to set up a camera and record a swing. It makes things easier, especially when explaining things to you. We'll be using your videos to explain what you want to work on and compare it to others, which is why a good setup is important.

What is your shot pattern and what are your bad shots? Do you hit the ball left to right, right to left? Are the bad shots fat, thin, left or right?

Doesn't matter if the video is rotated 90ΒΊ, I can rotate it on my computer if needed. I'll give you some suggestions right away, but really want you to record and post two videos, once from face on and one from down the line, make sure you set it up according to the article I linked to. And you have to be hitting a ball. A swing without a ball will resemble your swing with a ball, but it will rarely be identical.

Hip movement looks good, they rotate and the knees change flex, they also move forward on the downswing. The back knee might want to flex more, we'll see when you get a video from down the line. The head stays still through the swing, very good.

You obviously flip. Throwing out the club pretty early from the top of the backswing.

As you can see on the pictures, your head rotates back on the backswing. It also looks like your shoulder plane is too flat. A down the line view would give a much better image of that part. But based on the pictures, I think you would need steeper shoulders. Left shoulder move down under your chin, instead of rotating too flat and pulling the head along. Here is a good thread on the subject. Improving on this will only help you with the arms and flipping.

The other major thing I see is your arms rotating too far and collapsing into your body on the backswing. You got a pretty big shoulder rotation, but they seem to be sequenced well with your lower body. Your shoulders and hips at impact looks very good. The problem with the arms is that they bend too much and get too much behind you, which makes it harder to get them down again in time.

The best way to work on your arms in my opinion is by working on extensor action. I wrote a post about it here , which you can give a read.

You will also have to work on driving the hands through the downswing, instead of throwing the clubhead at the ball. This may take some time, especially to find the right feelings. I'll elaborate on this when you get some videos up. Here is a post I've made on topic before. If you get better extensor action, it will make it a lot easier to work on this stuff. Belive me, I'm doing the same thing myself. You got little and late wrist hinge. You might want to hinge them earlier and stop the rotation sooner.

This is a lot of information, but don't worry about it at this point. We'll give suggestions on what you should work on first. It is important to take things in steps, not trying to fix everything at once. I've tried it, and failed.

If there is anything you want to be better explained or something you don't understand, ask away. I'll be looking forward to your videos.

I don't think you reply immediately.

I will schedule practice plan. And I don't forget your advice ' It is important to take things in steps, not trying to fix everything at once. I've tried it, and failed.'

Once again thanks you, Zeph.

Jackbear, I'd recommend the arms going more inward, like Charlie Wi.  Some things to check out
