Wow, nice front side Michelle, 44. Are you friggin kidding me 8 over in 9 holes. When is this idiot going to realize the big boys play real golf. I see her shooting 44 on the front side as a home town guy got stuck on the alternates list and did not make the field. Makes me sick!

1. Michelle Wie is not an idiot.
2. If the hometown guy got stuck on the alternates list, he might have been stuck there even if Wie were not entered in the tournament.
3. Since she's not in dead last, maybe the guy who IS in dead last (one of the "big boys" who play real golf??) shouldn't have been able to get into the tournament . . .

1. Michelle Wie is not an idiot.

The guy who is dead last is a club pro... if that matters.

1. Michelle Wie is not an idiot.

1. Have you ever listened to her I am not so sure. Plus what is this 8 or 9 missed cuts in a row? You'd hope she would learn.

2. How did he get in? I have no idea maybe he IS out of his league as well. I don't care about him. He couldn't be less deserving of the exemption than she is, that would be impossible. 3. Whatever, so she's not dead last, big deal the point is she can't compete with the men yet she continues to take spots in these tournaments. So what I know sony can put in whoever they want I just wish they would choose someone more deserving.

Did you really think she would not be at lest +8. club pros usually get a sponsor spot or two, their the local link to the PGA.

Willie Mac (kenzie) seems to be for real.
The Qschoolers seem to be struggling, Q medalist George McNeill finished at even, pretty good for the first day.

Donald is world class player, will be near the top on Sunday.

So the guy in last place was a Monday qualifier. So what you are saying is, unlike Michelle Wie, he deserved to be there.

Wie should be allowed to play on pga as long as Tiger is allowed to play lpga.
More power to her, but i never agreed with allowing her to play with the big boys. Tiger should be allowed to play lpga just for giggles. When he dominates both leagues, lpga players will think twice about trying to make the cut for pga.
I am all for equality, but she doesnt desreve to be there, she looks ridiculous (have you seen her pouting face on golfchannel.com), as she is TOTALLY out of her league. Atleast if she were competitive, but she consistently fails to make the cut.

Just my 2 cents and im sure im going to gt burned for my comments! LOL

there are 9 players that are only 3 shots or less ahead of her right now. I dont think she should not be allowed to play but I think she should wait until she's ready. If she keeps trying, and playing like this she is just setting her self up to fail. If she ever does make the cut poeple wont be saying:
"wow she made it, she must be great"
they will be saying:
"ya she made it... but it took 75 attempts"

a little perspective on the pinata that is Michele Wie. She is just 17 and has been accepted into Stanford. As a parent of a 15 year old daughter that will also be applying to Stanford, do any of you know how hard it is to get into Stanford sans any athletic scholarship? As she is a pro, she is not able to compete at the NCAA level. So maybe just maybe over her long and tenured life she actually had time to prep for her SAT's and GPA and find time to compete at an extremely competitive level (see LPGA Majors record). While I agree that it is time for her to stop the PGA thing, she is world class and deserves little of the ridicule doled out here and elsewhere. Props to Michele for continuing to address the media in a dignified and classy attitude. For anyone to be able to handle the rigors of proffesional golf and the academics required to get into Stanford is remarkable.

I have never liked her and never thought she should be playing on the men’s tour. I just don’t think it is good for the PGA in the long run. However, I did see the value – More press for the PGA in general, bigger gates, potentially higher purses in the future, and more coverage. So I tolerated it (just barely).

But now it is just getting embarrassing. At this point I am sure she won’t make the cut (not that anyone ever thought she would) but hopefully she can salvage something. She did finish the back nine even I believe.

Someone needs to knock some sense into her parents and whoever is pushing her down this path. If she is the only one that thinks she can do this at this stage of her career then someone needs to knock some sense into her.

For me this is kind of like Phil at the US Open. I never really liked the guy but after that I felt bad for him, and now I don’t dislike him that much anymore. Ditto Wie.

But for now the novelty is over, move on.

I have bashed Michelle Wie as much as anyone on this forum, but lets get something straight. I don't friggin care how good of a student she is. I could not care less that she has been accepted to Stanford. I makes no difference to me what so ever that she is a great citizen, really it doesn't. I don't bash her for any of those things. I don't dislike her as a person. I bash her because she repeatedly has taken spots in men's tournaments where she has no chance of competing. The Letter from Uncle John says it best when he talks about whether or not she can look in the mirror and believe she can win a mens tournament. SHE CAN'T!! And since she cannot compete at this time she and her camp should be intelligent enough to graciously decline any futher exemptions until she can possibly win (If that time ever comes). Really, the sideshow should stop. Its not like the PGA tour is giving her appearance fees. If she gets an appearance fee then, well thats a entirely different animal. I am sure she is a nice kid, and that is all fine and dandy. Now she needs to grow up realize her limitations and act accordingly.

...how many of the 144 male players can you say the same thing about

I agree that I would prefer if Michelle wasn't playing in men's tournaments but she isn't the problem. She shouldn't get the television coverage that she is getting unless she is competitive. I think this would fall off of all our radar screens if she was treated like all of the other competitors and covered only if she was a factor.

I guess the other point that could be made is against sponsor exemptions but then you wouldn't have Daly in the field this week either.

Well lets see what John Maginnes says

Every player in the field believes that if they bring their best stuff to the golf course for four rounds that they will win the tournament. You may not believe me, but trust me it is true. I never won on the TOUR but I believed every Wednesday night that if I could put it all together that I would be hoisting the trophy on Sunday.

NONE. They ALL believe they can win each and every time they tee it up. Otherwise they wouldn't be out there. Noone is cockier than a professional athlete.

I have no problem with sponsor's exemptions. They put up the money they should get something in return. I just wish they would choose people who could possibly compete. To choose the sideshow press field day option IMHO takes away from the tournament itself. John Daly has won on tour including 2 majors, he deserves any exemption he gets.

so are you and Uncle John saying that Wie doesn't have that mindset? Is taht your ESP or is it ESPN that tells you this? I'll take Michelle and give you your 2.5 shots on any Pro Setup any day......

    • I agree, until we are watching the 18th hole in the dark or waiting for the champion to finish and it's been 5+ hours
    • Question for the group. The course I normally play at has 27 holes - 3 9s that they use to for 18 in the various combinations. Is it okay to declare* if I’m playing front or back when I play 9 on this course? I’m figuring I need to declare before I play a shot. *meaning just say to myself that this is the back 9. Curious what people think. Of course, my only holes left are 13 and 17, so I’m going to declare the back 9 for the rest of the year. Probably only one or two more rounds though.
    • This is my opinion as well. I would love to see the LPGA take the lead on this.    This.
    • I agree in general. The one way in which the viewer will notice the pace of play is just that "it's been an hour and Nelly Korda or Scottie Scheffler have only played four holes." Or if for some reason they show a lot of shots of players just standing around when they could be showing golf shots. But I think Andy Johnson said it most recently/best, playing fast is a skill, too. I would love for pro golfers to play faster. You'd see the players you want to see hit more shots in the same time than they do now. So I don't disagree with the pace of play stuff, and hope they can find ways to do it. Heck, the LPGA should leap at the chance to differentiate itself in this way, IMO. So: I stand by what I said in that the TV viewer really doesn't notice much about pace of play. It's rare when they do. I support increasing the pace of play wholeheartedly. But my top five reasons don't include TV ratings or viewership.
    • I don't think the viewer at home can pick up on pace of play, unless the announcers mention something. The telecast has the luxury of bouncing from player to player, which ensures we the viewer always have something to watch.  I think we would notice pace of play if the camera just followed one golfer for an entire round. Or  You were actually golfing behind the slow group Or  The slow group is the last to only group left to finish the tournament.  I like the idea of having a person carrying a digital clock, following each golfer. When the golfer gets to the ball and the group in front of them has cleared they have 60 seconds or they get a penalty stroke. Maybe a second violation is a 2 stroke penalty.  Or as I have said before, every golfer wears a shock collar!!!!! at 1 min 1 second that golfer if going to drop. It will take them a good 30 second to recover, leaving them with another 30 seconds to hit the shot. The course would be littered with golfers just convulsing on fair way from an endless cycle of shocks because they cant seem to hit their ball and keep pace of play.
