The game can be depressing/frustrating sometimes. It's really tough when you have good range sessions and feel like you're on the brink of breaking through and then it either doesn't happen or you manage to regress. However, when you do finally break through and reach a new level it is a great feeling.

Nah... if you are playing a round for handicap purposes or tournament or whatever then obviously play according to all the rules including playing the ball as it lies... however, if you are just practicing and you are trying out different types of shots or working on different things, then by all means move the ball around. I look at it this way, there is a difference between playing and practicing, if you play you follow the rules, if you practice, well that's different; some people just practice on the course rather than the range.

Do you always practice shots on nice fluffy grass? I play the ball down more than ever when practicing, I mean that is why it is called practicing. You are practicing for the real thing. If you have it in your head that during practice rounds you can move the ball around then you will certainly carry that thought path to the course... (IMO)

I use to let the game really get to me. I use to get so frustrated after a bad round that I stopped playing for a couple of years. I then came to the realization that unless your playing in a tournament, no matter what your score, it really doesn't matter. Bad score, good score, nobody really cares and as soon as your done with the round it's ancient history. It is really a game that is best enjoyed in the moment no matter how it goes.

There are only a couple things that really bother me ... first & foremost is hitting an iron shot fat - can't stand that & if I do it more than a couple times, really gets to me.     Grounding the driver off the tee box is the other thing - H A T E that.      These reoccuring issues annoy me to no end & take the fun out of it.     One smoked 4 iron will get me out of my bad mood though ... right quick

It frustrates me most of the time but I get a little depressed when I'm struggling of the tee and not hitting it very far,but that's golf !

I never get depressed. I will start getting a little frustrated ( but keep it to myself ) and if anything, it helps me focus more

I have the letter 'M' written on all my golf balls to remind me of Manuel De Los Santos and realize I am extremely lucky. If this guy is as happy as he is, then I have no reason to get depressed about shooting a bad round

In short...no.  I always manage to take at least one positive away from every hole and every round.  A positive from a hole might be a solid drive, or a good approach, or even a solid putt to save par or limit the bogey.  A positive from the round could be my score, or improvement in a certain club, or understanding why I didn't do so hot and knowing that I can always work to get better.  Only being a year into this crazy game, I realize that I'm fortunate that I have the physical ability to be able to enjoy a round of golf while others might not be so fortunate.  Any day I get to golf is a good day in my book.

Golf is a game of adjustments, you play it to get better. So when I golf bad I view it as a challenge to change what is wrong. If this game wasn't frustrating at times it wouldn't be worth playing.

    • Take that logic and apply it to temporary water in the general area. The general area is not supposed to be under water. You are entitled free relief to play from another part of the general area that’s not under water. You are entitled to free relief to play from another area of the bunker. Bunkers are limited in size, and the fact that you were not able to play out of the same bunker no closer to the hole was unfortunate, but how does that possibly equate to “I should be able to play out of the grass instead with no penalty?” It doesn’t make logical sense. The ACC accommodates this by allowing the drop out of the bunker for one penalty stroke instead of the usual two, to account for the difference in lie.
    • Day 1:  I had my first “real” practice today at the driving range.  I hit two buckets of balls utilizing all of my clubs minus the pitching wedge (I haven’t had a lesson on that one yet).
    • like I don't like to think I'm an amazing player as I play off around 7-8 handicap or anything but The one miss I have at the minute is with my strike and its getting really frustrating because I don't see what's causing it please don't say basic stuff like I don't weight shift etc because it wont help here are some videos form certain angles (these aren't that fat in the video maybe slightly chunked but its more the fact that the chunk happens 1 in every 4 iron shots so I'm never consistent) https://imgur.com/epaeE4D https://imgur.com/CKeV0Nm https://imgur.com/lJkliwd https://imgur.com/a/1Z7VwK9
    • You’ve yet to propose anything else. And yet it was, and the rules tell you how to deal with it. Your question has been answered. The Committee can declare them GUR. I disagree with your assessment of common sense. 😀 And yet they didn’t really change this one. Looks like this is about wrapped up? “That Rule is So Unfair!” A Rules Geek’s Generalized Guide to Hot Takes and Overreactions | Rules Geeks I apologize for the length of this post. If I had more time I’d have written a shorter one. – Erik J...
    • When you are penalized for hitting into the sand trap the penalty is having to hit it out of the sand, not out of three inches of water. A sand trap is not the same as a water hazard. A sand trap is not supposed to be under water. It is a unique condition caused  by weather and poor drainage. Most local leagues like ours allow the free drop in this type of situation, as long as there is no area in the bunker to legally drop. This is what I’m talking about, sometimes the official rules of golf don’t align with common sense. That’s why they are finally starting to change them. For example, when wind blows your ball off the green. That was a stupid rule. People being able to call the tv network to say they saw a players ball move. That was a stupid rule. I’m just saying, these are rules made up a long time ago, and it’s time to modernize them.
