Starts tonight. Can't wait to be able to watch some rugby.

I am having an early night so I can get up at 3:30am and see the opening ceremony/All Blacks vs Tonga

Can't make a call on who will win it all, ABs, Boks and Wallabies all have a good chance and England are no write off

Wish I was back home in NZ for this....ah well.

Go Boks! Although I don't have much genuine hope this time around. Too many older guys past their prime and a weak coach. Got to think the All Blacks, at home, are the favorites. But the weight of expectations can also be a curse ...

Absolutely. Every frikken year the media/public put so much weight on them to come up with the cup - got to think it gets to them no doubt. We have a few young guys in the team who may be able to deter it a bit better than others but who knows. Graham Henry and McCaw are probably feeling a fair bit of pressure.

I just hope the world cup isn't decided by a kicking contest. I want rucks and mauls and running style rugby to win, no 10 point games

Dont you wish that our American friends could watch some of the World Cup?

They might then look at the ridiculous padding their "football" players wear and change their minds about what it really takes to be a man.

Covering yourself with padding to make it look like you have huge shoulders ain't one of them.

Wallabies to win - but I'll be happy for my Kiwi friends to do OK, after the terrible events in Christchurch.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Opening Ceremony was pretty good I thought.

ABs played pretty good vs Tonga, especially the backs

Canada vs. Tonga tomorrow.

Will be a good game I think

Canada are 14th in the world and Tonga are 12th. They;ve met 5 times, Canada winning 3, Tonga winning 2.

Also, unlucky for Wales to lose to the Boks, did that penalty kick go over? Who knows.

Japan and Argentina also earned respect in their games.

Did anyone see Rodrigo Roncero? Gets a huge gash in his head, blood all over his face/neck, comes back on with a glob of Vaseline on his head, gets knocked out cold 10 minutes later, gets some CPR, gets up and wobbles a bit, refuses any more help and runs back on to keep playing lol

Yeah. That was ... poor. My cousin here is married to a former captain of the Welsh women's rugby team. You can imagine how well the BBQ went after the game!

Thought Australia showed the best, but it's still early days.

We were shocking in the first half against Italy, was only until about 10 minutes into the 2nd half we pulled our finger out. Seriously if NZ play half decently they'll smoke everyone.

Sometimes we have trouble playing half decent at World Cups

I think the tournament has been good so far, a lot of close matches and the underdogs playing pretty good

[/quote]dude, seriously? I thought you were Canadian! Questioning the toghness of hockey players could get your citizenship revoked!! PS - I love watching rugby too, a tough game played by tough guys, which I appreciate.

They have a great team, but are just extremely inconsistent.

They can beat any team, but lose just the same

Boks looked much better against Fiji. But the Irish win likely means all three Southern Hemisphere sides will now come through the same side of the draw, which is a pity. Unless you're an England fan I guess.

I've always hated the way world cups are conducted. Often you don't see the best teams play each other till the very end as they have pools etc. But my money is well and truly on NZ.

    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
