New to golf so never really thought about it as a problem, but I can see how the sweat and oils on the glove can be a problem with the grip. I relegate my gloves that become dirty and worn to range duty and then use a new one for playing. More of a problem this year in the northeast was all the rain so it was tuff to keep a glove that wasn't soaked handy so I alternated between two gloves on rainy days (and mondays, thats a song for you younger lads and lasses). but the next time I clean my clubs I may give the gloves a go to see what difference it makes.

Look at your avatar, that should explain it.

my golf gloves always look like I've worked at Jiffy Lube changing oil all day ... nothing wrong with a dirty glove.   Ripped or with holes, sure, time to replace, but dirt = mojo.

I'm not really sure how you guys used the Dawn, or how much, but it definitely should not wear it down or dry it out. If anything, the glove comes out very soft and tacky after it is dry. I'm also not sure if others are referring to dirt as actual dirt, like mud, or dirt as in grime from the grip of the club.

lol Gloves are cheap enough to simply buy them as they wear out. You do get what you pay for as well. However, if you do happen to get some mud on your glove or the rain-soaked grip is staining your glove and removing the tack, Dawn definitely works every time. At least for myself and several others that I've recommended it to.

The Callaway gloves that I use usually run $20-25/ea. Using the Dawn approach actually extends my glove's life by quite a few rounds - which in the end, allows me to buy a "few more rounds" if you know what I mean . Penny pinching is one thing, prolonging the burning of a $25 bill is a bit different.

Occasionally I'll run it under warm water and lightly hand scrub it down, inside and outside. I only do this once or twice over the glove's year-long lifespan, probably in the middle and near the end of summer to get back some of the tackiness. I think it helps. I think I've tried tossing it in the washing machine too, which did the trick. Not sure how gentle that was. I always air-dry it. I also keep my glove off when I'm not hitting. It let's your hand air out thus trapping less heat (which is nice in the summer) keeping the glove a little cleaner.

I'm the same way - about taking off my glove after every shot.  I have three gloves in my golf bag, and rotate them... But each will last me (I'm guessing here) 10 to 15 rounds of golf.  Plus I practice quite a bit at the range.  If you take the glove off, and only wear it before your shot, you will extend the life of the glove significantly.

Oh... And I've never cleaned my glove.  But I have mistakenly washed it before by leaving it in my wind breaker!! Hahhaha

When that happens, I replace it.....

There is nothing worse than a greaaazy, slimy, nasty, sweat soaked glove...LOL

If you follow the above recommendation, the glove will wear out and tear before it gets too dirty.  If you are going through gloves faster, it's because a bad grip is ripping them prematurely or you leave it on for the entire round allowing it to get soaked in sweat.  I probably get 15 rounds from a glove and I only wear gloves in good condition!!   I never really tracked how long they last so I don't really know for sure.  I buy gloves by the box of 6....LOL.  I'm a lefty that is picky, so I order in bulk because most pro shops don't carry what I want for lefties.

I figure I buy between 1-2 boxes of six a year and I play between 110-130rounds per year......If I average 9 gloves over 130 rounds.....15 rounds per glove is about right.  Of course that's just a guestimate........LOL

I've never bothered trying to clean my glove. Just toss it in my bag after the round, and sometimes when I pull it out for the next round, it's as stiff as cardboard. Maybe I should give washing it a try.......I do typically keep a worn out one in the bag, for use on the range.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
