Rant over. I feel better now.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Makes perfect sense when it's explained but phonetically it's understandable how it's confused...

When I first started out it looked like "tit leist" to me and when I heard the pronunciation used by many of "tight list" it made no sense as the 'e' and 'l' would need to be reversed for that pronunciation. It was only after properly thinking about the different ways it could be pronounced that I figured out that it's "title ist"

I remember a Beavis and Butthead episode where they found some golf balls in the creek and got a kick about finding some "Tit-le-ist" balls, emphasis on the first three letters...

Everyone makes typos, but I know what you're saying.

May I also submit:

Spaulding,  Calloway, Galloway, metal play, Eric, PING persimmon woods,  perimeter weighted blades, hitting a fairway wood from the fairway being called hitting "off the deck", and on and on . . .

Also, based on pronunciation alone, we'd need a few more syllables to capture the Aussie version of most words. And a few less to capture the US or Canadian versions.

Speaking of syllables and accents/dialects, in Canada there's a toddlers television program from the UK that's dubbed into Canadian. In the UK version the children are searching for "staubreeze". My daughter saw what they'd found and said, "Ooooh . . . straaw-berries!!"

I actually saw a car the other day with a sticker on the back windshield that looked like :titleist: but said Filthiest. I found one on ebay if you want to see!
