The NFL Draft

Well, this Saturday is the NFL Draft, and this thing has seriously turned into one of the biggest events in sports all year long. I don't know why, but Sportscenter has been loaded with this draft stuff since last week, and there are always specials on when I am home for lunch.

Don't get me wrong, I watch the first round usually, and then I try to catch my favorite team's picks as well. But come on, this thing has gotten out of hand. Not to mention football don't even start until August/September.

Does anyone watch much of the draft? I wish the time in between picks was a little less by the way. Waiting 15 minutes between picks leaves a little too much downtime for my liking.

Anyway, give your thoughts on the draft in general and also about this year's specific draft if you wish.

Since I was a kid, it's been a tradition to sit in front of the TV (with my dad and brother) and watch the draft all weekend (kind of like the Masters). I've since moved out, but I still enjoy catching most of the first round. I guess I've always been fascinated with assembling a talented team. And, since I'm a Bengals fan, I definitely know what a talent-less team has looked like (until recently).

What do you mean until recently? Did they recently acquire some talent?

Oh wait, that's right, I read about that one guy they have on their team. Supposed to be the best water boy in the league!

I'm a Broncos fan and I can't believe they took Maurice Clarett in the 3rd round. Its hard to argue with Shanahan's track record of drafting r.b.'s , but this was a surprise. With his time away from the game and his slow 40 times I figured he'd be way down the board. I would have rather them take a w.r. with that pick. Oh well, time will tell.
