Is the R 11 as good as the reviews I read? Im looking for a new driver. One thats straight and of course long, with straight being my main goal. However I will probably hold off untill taylor made comes out with the newer driver(they always do right) Then the price should drop.Anyway who has one and what do you think? My current driver is from giga golf and i recently upgraded my irons to the machspeed sq.Thanks for the feed back.

I have had my R11 driver 9 degree (60 gram Blur stiff flex) for 2-3 months and I love it!  I had a bad habit of push-slicing the ball only off of the tee.  I tested this club at a local pro shop and did the same thing. The salesman explained how the settings work and set it to what he thinks I need (it's set to 10 degree launch angle, closed face, high with the shaft) and I cannot stress how much this has improved my game.  This driver makes your ball roll for days!  In my opinion, you would be very pleased with this club.

P.S.  before having this driver, my handicap was around 12.  Now it's around 8...mostly because of how many fairways I can hit

IN MY BAG:

 - TaylorMade R11 Driver (Stiff Flex)

 - TaylorMade R11 3 Wood (Stiff Flex)

 - TaylorMade Rescule 11 (Stiff Flex)

 - Nike Slingshot irons (3 - PW)

 - TaylorMade TP xFT 52*

 - TaylorMade TP xFT 60*

 - Nike OZ Mallet Putter

 - Titleist NXT Tour golf balls

 - Footjoy StaSoft glove

 - Adidas Powerband Sport shoes

Nice. ...I will hit a few different ones but I do like the adjustable features on it..I know it won't fix my swing flaw but that's why I'm taking lessons.

If you are ready to invest that much money, I would also recommend trying the Titleist 910 D2 driver.  That is also a highly rated & commonly played driver.  I hope the info helps some :-)

I hit the r11 vs SF 2.0 and bought the SF. I didn't like the way it sounded or felt. it was a nice driver just not for me. I did hit the 910 as well, traded in my 909d3 for the SF. the thing I wish the SF had was the interchangeable shaft adapter. been through 2 shafts so far an the next one is in route. would be nice to he able to take all three to the range and just change em out to see the differences.

I just got an r11 today and couldn't wait to get home and have some fun with the tuning. Havn't changed anything just couldn't wait to give it a try. Any way will head out to the range this weekend and see how it goes

I recently got a heckuva deal on the R11 driver and 3-wood. I played the Burner previously. The R11 is all it claims to be! I am definately alot longer with this club. Easy to set-up. Like jpalmero stated it does have a funny sound, but to me the feel was so solid. The white head is easy to get used to.

Dick's Sporting goods is actually running a great deal on them right now. They are regularly priced at $399, Dick's is selling the driver for $299 and 3-woods for $199. If you're going to get one, nows the time to do it. You won't be disappointed!

Phillip

I purchased a R11 when they were released, and was very inconsistent with it off the tee box until I changed shafts. The golf pro that put my new shaft in told me that the technology in the actual heads have not changed that much over the last five years or so, with the exception of the adjustable drivers.  I can hit a taylormade burner driver with an appropriate shaft just as far as my R11. If I had to do it over again, I would have gone that route, and spent less money. Don't get me wrong, I love my R11, and hit it well, but the change in shaft helped me more than the adjustability of the head.

My 2 cents....I'd never buy a driver blind.  Go to a store that has PGA Tour style launch monitors and do some club testing.  They'll have a pro to assist in translating the data. Pick your top 3-4 contenders and swing away....the best club 'for you' will present itself.  In all honesty...the shaft will be key..  Club X may out perform club Y, and the reason will be the shaft is the best fit..LOL  True story..

Its a great driver if you like white.  I tested one but kept my r9 I would suggest getting fitted and put on a monitor, 1) swing speed  2) smash rate 3) launch angle 4) ball speed or spin.  Mostly depends on shaft and face angle.  The r11 S is out and has a 460 head instead of 440 head. Still need to have a swing.  One thing I noticed; it was a little flatter.  Found the 10.5 a better fit which I normally hit a 9.5.

It's all about the shaft.  The head is just looks, sound, and loft (which is adjustable now anyway).

I took my daughter shopping on the weekend for pants. I grabbed a couple pairs in a size that I know would fit her. She said we couldn't buy them until she tried them on. She says just because they're labelled the same doesn't mean they'll fit the same way since they're a different style and not all made the same way by the same people. She's 5 years old.  And here I am buying drivers off ebay and hoping for the best.

Sean,

Any chance your daughter can caddie for you when she gets a little older? She could give you the club that best fits the upcoming shot.

It's a good thing that there is a 14 club limit...lol.

Picked up the R11 TP version and gave it a try at the range after a few adjustments. It's a club that took a little getting used to. Overall, I get more consistency out of my R9 460 and will likely keep the R11 in the garage for now.

    • I take 2nd, is a confirmation that you can eventually win your major and also is good material for having a laugh about it in the distant future.
    • I'm a relatively new golfer (<5 years) in my mid-thirties. So far I've spent most of my time and money on lessons and actually golfing. I'm currently a 90s-100s player, but hope to break into the 80s with lessons and practice. I'm definitely not of the mindset that flashy expensive clubs will help me play better...I try to make the assumption that my equipment is more capable than I am. That said, I do know that realistically that threshold does exist somewhere. I just have no idea where. At what point should I consider an upgrade from starter clubs to something I can grow into and improve with?  My stuff: Starter set (Callaway Strata) from Amazon. (3w, 5h, 9i-PW) Gently used Cleveland Wedges (LW, SW, GW) - My old ones were from a set from the late 90s, so I did upgrade these. Gently used TaylorMade M1 driver - The starter set driver had a regular flex, and I had several knowledgeable people tell me I should have a stiff flex Thanks in advance!
