Curious how you guys have managed to meet your golf buddies.  Existing friends, business acquaintances, or strangers you happened to meet at some point on a course?

It seems much easier to meet new golf buddies if you belong to a private club than if you play public courses.  In my area, being paired with someone means you're likely being paired with a tourist, thus it is difficult to find new golf buddies especially those closer to my age instead of at least twice my age.  The few people I know around my age that do play golf take it way too seriously and they remove the fun from the game.

I rarely play with my existing friends since our schedules never match anymore.

Over the last few years my playing partners have been people I met on the course.

I've had several regular playing partners over the years.  Early in my playing days, several were co-workers.  Over the past 15yrs, I've always had a membership and I met my playing partners at the course.

My playing partners I met during a few golf tournaments. The rest are co-workers. Most of my existing friends don't play golf.

Existing friends, although, only one still plays golf and he's working in a law firm...so it can be tough getting our schedules to match. My brother and I will play the occasional round as well. For the most part this year, I've either played solo or whoever I get paired with at the course.

I can relate to the paired single!!  I have regular people I play with and I often pair up as a single too.  LOL....if you play as often as I do, just showing up happens a lot......

Back in April after the tornado's hit Alabama we were without power and just trying to make the best of our situation one of my neighbors mentioned he was playing golf that Sunday and I asked if I could tag along. He had been playing with a group that would usually have up to 7 or 8, so one more was no big deal. Since then, I've been playing with the group every weekend.

I wish I were better at making those 'good' random pairings stick. But when the round ends, I just shake hands and say something like, "Thanks for the game." Then I walk off to the parking lot...

There's only one guy I play semi-regularly with: my neighbor.  He was the guy who first invited me to play about two and a half years ago (loaning me his son's clubs for several rounds).  He's stalled out at around 100, and I'm playing bogey golf fairly consistently these days.  That frustrates him so much that, recently, our schedules just haven't matched up.  I like him, but he plays a bit slow --- adds about thirty-to-forty-five minutes to my average round.  :( I would really like to play with someone who is just a bit (or a whole lot) better than I am.

I've played with two other people out here. Once each, and I think they're just not that interested in playing more (their work schedules don't match up too well with mine either).

When I'm visiting family out in CA, I play a lot with my brother (who actually lives in Michigan) and other relatives.  My brother could be really good if he weren't so aggressive in his game.  He just can't resist a high-risk shot.  And he's got a horrid temper -- watched him kick his pull-cart to pieces after hitting a slightly fat shot once.  That kind of ruins the atmosphere. (He left the pieces stacked neatly at the next tee box -- good story now, but a bit of a mood-kill on the day.)

So mostly, I just play alone or with whoever happens to be at the tee when I get worked in.

I started playing most of my golf with guys at work, but we have all moved on and I only play on occasion with them now.  I play most of my golf with my brother at this point.

I usually only play with my uncle and father, but sometimes I play with some friends I met in work, and have managed to get a couple of my friends from my old high school to take up golf which has been pretty cool :)

The random pairings rarely do...IMO  If I had a dime for every time I exchanged numbers, I might have $3. LOL    Every time somebody asks, I sort of cringe inside, but I give it to be polite....nobody ever calls anyway.  I surely never have....

For it to stick, it's usually people you bump into over and over.  IE...you both have memberships at the same course, etc, etc.... or you just show up at the same time regularly at the same course. Maybe you were paired randomly multiple times......then it might stick.

I get a lot of random scramble invites...LOL somebody will tell me they are playing in a scramble next week and need a 4th...etc, etc....and invite me to join them.  I don't like scrambles anyway unless it's with my own company......IE..a free day off to play golf instead of working.
