Luke Donald just confirmed he'll be playing in the Disney to stay on top of the money list on the PGA tour.  Good chance he's going to make history.

I hope he does it. He also has a very good chance of becoming just the 3rd golfer to win €10m in a single season (After Tiger and Vijay). He's 2 million away with a few big money events left in the season. HSBC, Singapore and Dubai World Championship have 3 of the biggest prize funds you will see all year. (Although I'm not sure if he's even playing these events due to the new baby coming soon)

Tiger would have already done this at least 5 times, but he was not eligible for the Order of Merit since he did not play enough Euro Tour events in any given year.

Perhaps, but nonetheless Tiger didn't.

I hope Luke can pull it off.  He seems humble and is obviously an excellent golfer.

It's a moot point if Webb Simpson plays half decent.

Either way, I think players should have to declare whether they want their WGC and Major Championship winnings to count toward their PGA Tour earnings or their Euorpean Tour earnings. It seems sketchy to win one event then get credit for those earnings on both tours. The same thing would apply to most players near the money title lead, so this isn't a slight against Donald in particular.

Donald will have to finish, what, 1 or 2? He's $327,029 behind - if Webb wins any money this week I think Donald has virtually no chance outside of a win. Oui?

If Donald finishes 1st, Webb has to come in 2nd ALONE ( not tied ) for Webb to win it. Otherwise it's Donald's.

Summin' like that

I was talking about something more the other way. How high does Luke have to finish to win $327k more than Webb? If Webb makes the cut and earns even $10k, that makes Luke's hill nearly $340k large. That's what, a top three finish?

If Donald wins: Should Donald win at Disney, he will claim the first-place check of $846,000. If that happens, Simpson would need to finish solo second (worth $507,600) to stay atop the money list.

If Donald finishes solo second: Should Donald win the $507,600 that goes with a solo second, Simpson would need to finish solo eighth or better to stay atop the money list. Solo eighth is worth $145,700.

If Donald finishes tied for second: A two-way tie for second is worth the aforementioned $413,600. If Donald accomplishes that, Simpson would need to finish in at least a four-way tie for 21st (worth $50,760) to stay atop the the money list. A three-way tie for second (worth $350,933.33) will not be good enough for Donald.

Donald wins $ title if: Wins with Simpson worse than 2nd; 2nd with Simpson worse than 8th; two-way tie for 2nd with Simpson worse than 21.

I think it is going to be a tough call for Donald to top the USPGA list, Webb Simpson has too much

of a lead, Donald has to win at Disney to have a realistic chance. One thing I did notice is that Donald

has played in only 18 PGA events whereas Simpson has played in 25 events.

Donald deserves to be World no 1, given his consistency and position on the European Tour, in addition to his

US earnings.

Can't get the time off - might have to occupy The Disney Store at Kingsway Garden Mall instead.

    • Day 116 12-6 Still working on getting to lead side. Tonight I also tried some skill work with clubface awareness.  Hit foam balls.
    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
