Here are my scores at a golf galaxy simulator, I tested out the new 10.5 r11 driver with a extra stiff shaft. Currently I have the 9.5 super tri r9 with stiff shaft and hit about 300 yds on avg. Do you think with the new shaft and increasing loft a little bit gives me higher ball flight and produces these longer drives? I know I have a higher swing speed than most, just really want to practice this off season and try to play in some amateur events next season.

Thanks

well your stats are way beyond mine.. i went to golfsmith's a few days ago and got on the launch monitor.  the things we worked on was reducing back spin, allowing the ball to roll out more.  my current club, which i could hit straight, but only averaged 220-230, would hit a real high ball with lots of back spin, so it was almost all carry.  i bought a ping g20 with a stiff shaft and a lower angle (8.5 vs. 9.5 with my current club).  now i hit a much lower ball that rolls out quite a bit. so less carry, more roll, my average now was 245-250.  i played 2 rounds so far with it, at a course i play a lot, and have noticed that my ball is further down the fairways than before.

so with that, i had the opposite result.. i lowered my ball flight and got a longer drive.  i would suggest comparing the r11 and the supertri by looking at ball speed, back spin, and launch angle.  you may be hitting it further because (a) the launch monitor may give different results then you see on the course (no wind, etc..), (b) that the r11 is a great club (i almost bought it myself, but the g20 was a bit cheaper and was i more consistent w/ it), and (c) the r11 is more suitied for you and that with more adjustments you may even be able to hit it further.

sure wish i had the issues you're having .. i can hit 300 yards ....  downhill, with a 40 mph back wind.

Putter: Scotty Cameron Kombi-Mid

Favorites: Old Ranch (Seal Beach), Ike/Babe (Industry Hills), Skylinks (Long Beach), Desert Willow (Palm Desert)

Yea but look at the dispersion, You have a serious right issue there man.. 87 feet right is 29 yards, thats a big slice man.

I would say tone it down.. Also, those numbers are high. I have been at golf galaxies that had me pegged at 165-170 mph golf ball speed, but i only hit it 280 yards, and i had ones that got me pegged over 330 yards. Those machines are horrible in translating golf ball speed to carry distance.

I don't think those numbers are realistic. I don't think 173 ball speed is going to carry 326.

Yea especially at that launch angle.  They may have had alot of wind turned on to your back.  I play on a fullswing simulator alot and with no wind and around 168-170 ballspeed the carry is only like 280-290 at 12-13 degree launch

Trajectory Profiler says 178 mph ball speed with 9-10 degree launch will get you 275 yards of carry. That sim is on the juice!

I definitely know it is on juice. A few of those bad slices is when I was really trying to crank it. I hit on average about 290 yds. Probably 270ish carry on the course. I just thought it was funny with those numbers.

Golf Galaxy wants to sell golf clubs. So for the guys that test out the $$$$ drivers they have a special simulation that involves hurricane force tail winds. hehehe

To me the only thing good about those machines are if your comparing similar drivers. Then you can get a decent look at left and right spin, backspin and some difference in distance betweeen. I wouldn't take them as real world at all..

Yeah, they do have certain good uses, otherwise nobody would use them "period."

    • Its way past time both tours  have  major  penalties for  slow  play. I  hate  it when they say" This group is  on the  clock". Big damn deal. Issue  penalties. Maybe Hull is a  bit too harsh but  its time a slew  of  2 stroke  penalties start  being  issued.     Charley Hull is fed up with slow play on the LPGA, so she offered a ‘ruthless’ solution “I’m quite ruthless, but I said, ‘Listen, if you get three bad timings, every time it’s a tee shot penalty; if you have three of them, you lose your Tour card instantly.’ I’m sure that would hurry a lot of people up, and they won’t want to lose their Tour card. That would kill the slow play, but they would never do that.” Who knows if that will work. But if it does not, maybe the PGA Tour should adopt Hull’s idea. The LPGA should, too, or at least assess penalty strokes for slow play. Five-hour rounds for a final group on Sunday is unacceptable and a quick way to lose interest and engagement from fans.

    • A hair under 190. It was pretty downhill, though, so I think we were playing between 180-185 to the pin. My 6 iron went 187 according to shot scope and ended up 18 feet away.
    • That's a tough pin on 14 at TR, had to make the hole play much longer, how far was that shot? I've only played that hole with a front pin.
    • No, but I spent (marginally) less time in the trees at Southern Pines, so it definitely played wider for me 😆. It definitely felt wider.
