Somehow this old sand wedge ended up in my bag.  It says Sand Tron Tour Model on the back of the club head, and has a 20 on the leading edge.  What in the world is this thing?  Why does it have circles instead of grooves?  What loft is it most likely to be?  And should I keep it, or buy something a little more modern?

You are mistaking the I for a T.

It's says Sand Iron. Not Sand Tron.

Wow...that is an old club!!  Did you get paired up with an 80yr old man lately?  I'm guessing that club has to be from the 40's-50's at the earliest.

What's in Paul's Bag:

- Big Bertha Alpha 815 3-wood
- Callaway Razr Fit 5-wood

Looks like a POS - a faux novelty club from the 1980s.

Mizuno MP600 driver, Cleveland '09 Launcher 3-wood, Callaway FTiz 18 degree hybrid, Cleveland TA1 3-9, Scratch SS8620 47, 53, 58, Cleveland Classic 2 mid-mallet, Bridgestone B330S, Sun Mountain four5.

I've seen one before, a buddy picked one up at a garage sale. It had been used, but nothing about it's appearance suggested it's age. Nothing to offer beyond that, though. :-P

Looks like an early version of the Alien Sand Wedge. (The one I saw that looks like this had Alien on it.)  Later they changed to grooves, and different models of the same garden implement. . Hitting behind the ball like a Axe chopping a root will pop a ball out of anything. But, the Axe feels better.

PS. I'm basing my judgement on the font of the words "STAINLESS"  and "TOUR MODEL" and the lack of ferrule.

I saw a similar one at Play it Again Sports again today - most likely the same one as a year ago. (The store is a museum for POS clubs.)  It had the dimpled face with only SW stamped into it.  The ones with groves are marked Alien.

Like I posted earlier, you chop behind the ball like an Axe, the ball pops in the air.  There's no feel and the swing weight is off the scale, good luck with distance control.

Of greater interest was a set of """Ping"""  irons with a small cavity back, crudely milled, crudely stamped (Phoenix)  Either a very collectible early model, or an early Taiwanese counterfeit. $100
