If they still had the Tours and the Stealths and the PHXes I'd be jumping all over this.

I just sent my protos back to them because my feet were getting soaked. That being said I didn't really see any stlyes I really liked. The Vegas look nice as does the oxford but neither are waterproof. Wish they had some better offerings in waterproof.

Has anyone tried the Lyt/Dry model?  They had a sale on golftown daily deal a few weeks ago.  I quite liked the look so I decided to buy them without having seen them in person or tried them on (none of the GT stores carry True in stock).  I finally received them yesterday and headed over to the simulator to hit some balls and I have to say the soles are incredibly stiff.

They don't have any heel drop but I wouldn't call them minimalist shoes by any stretch.  I can't feel the ground at all under my feet.  Sadly based on the weather I may not be able to try this in a real round until spring but I have my fingers crossed.  They were very comfortable but I'm concerned about all that extra stiffness and support weakening my feet.

As others have lamented, I miss the Tours and the Sensei were great (when the course was dry).

What I'd really love is the Tour model to come back using the sole from the Proto.

That wasn't really my experience. Stiffer than others? Yes. "Stiff"? Nah.

I would definitely say they aren't "supportive" either. They're still somewhat minimalist. Less than the first generations, though - a slightly narrower toe box, etc.

I think people just complained. I didn't - I loved them - but if you have to survive you have to slowly move people over to your product if you're in a niche. The "true minimalist" niche may have been too small at the start.

I wasn't really complaining, as I said I found them quite comfortable.  Just compared to the sensei I'm usually wearing they felt as stiff as plywood. Time will tell I suppose and if they are moving away from true minimalist shoes I wouldn't be surprised for the very reason you mentioned.

My Lyt were also very tight and tough to get into at first, but are much easier and have loosened up quite a bit since then. Perhaps the soles will soften a bit as well.

I do agree there is a big difference in the sole between the current shoes and the Sensei model. I kinda like the newer sole better because I like the slightly extra padding. Sometimes it was annoying when you step on a rock with the older shoes.

They are both really good shoes though. To me the change in the sole doesn't detract from me buying their shoes. I would buy either style. I think they just make a very comfortable shoe overall.

To each his own I suppose, I want less shoe not more for myself.  The Proto (at least for me) were a great balance between the two.  The Lyt might be leaning a little too far in the wrong direction for me, but I own them now so I'll certainly use them.

I'm not sure what other options there really are at this point anyway.  Got all winter to look at this point sadly.

I agree bradsul the protos were very comfortable and I thought they looked nice also. I hope I got a bad pair and they will replace them with the same ones. I don't like the current line at all.

I have two pair of Stealths and two pair of Protos.  I have seen and tried on the current styles from True and really don't care for them at all.   Plus, the wider toe box is exactly why I like the True's I have.    I sure hope True comes out with something closer to their "roots" before I am in the market for shoes again.   If not, the 4 pair I have will be the only ones I ever have.

I've got feet that never seem to perfectly fit any shoe.  Too wide in the instep to fit perfect in a D, too narrow in the heels to fit an E.  I'm prone to getting ingrown toenails.  I really do prefer being barefoot indoors, or wearing sandals outdoors.   I wore sandals exclusively last time I got an ingrown toenail and I actually avoided having to take antibiotics and getting minor surgery to fix it.

However, when I'm out walking with other people or I want to walk to a store in a decent amount of time, I tend to have to walk faster than is comfortable.  I'm 5'8' but my inseam is only about 28 inches- many people can easily outwalk me.  Consequently, the edge of the heel is the first part of the sole to really wear down.

Figured as much. I wonder if they will bring back any of the older models with an update. Any word on how the current line sold?
