Numbness can be from a bunch of things.

Most commonly it's from nerve root compression, most commonly disc bulges. When i say disc bulge, don't freak out, 40% have asymptomatic ones.

ANti inflammatories arent doing to do anything for this, actually if there is a problem they will slow the healing process down significantly.

What you need to do is goto someone competent with this stuff and actually do the proper physical examine to determine what this can be. Specifically if they don't pull out a reflex hammer and tap a bunch of places on your leg, you need to call them out on it or go see another doctor.

Once it is determined that this is shin splints, disc bulge, or peripheral neuropathy, you can begin treatment.

Most of this can be fixed with proper rehabilitation and i'd be happy to help you with that.

I found this thread on Google while looking up shin numbness. I have this problem in my right leg. It occurred after getting a shot in the hip and I'm not sure if that could be the cause.

I see this topic has been around for a while I would appreciate any help I can get. I'm 65 and disabled, do basic yardwork but no sports lately. I do have two herniated disc's in my back

Can anyone help? Thank you in advance

Welcome to The Sand Trap. I think you would be better served discussion this with a physician. We don't have many on this site. There could be a number of causes.

Just courios Beachcomber, if you are still around, or anyone new with this problem. (I know it's an old post)

On your initial visit to the doc's, did he/she do any blood work? Did the doc ask you any questions about having head aches?  Did the doc ask if you have , or anyone else in your family has diabetes?

I can't imagine a doctor saying they have no idea of why your shin is numb, with out further evaluation, or a referral to a specialists of some kind.

First always seek professional help.  From experience the hip, buttocks, thigh, knee, shin, foot/toes (with droop), numbness and great pain can result from repetitive motions irritating the sciatic nerve or inflammation / flattening of the piriformis (syndrome) muscle while rotating or firing the hip.  there is also a pressure point just below and to the side of the knee that can be massaged to illevate the foot drop and/or shin pain if present, per MD/DO.  They put my back in play and umpiring within 30 days.

If it occurred after the shot in "the hip," it's most likely a temporary sciatic nerve irritation (specifically the L4-5 levels). PM me as I have more questions and may be able to help

My fnp has no idea. My vein dr said some patients experience this after his treatment and it will go away. I had some vein blockage that he worked on so that may be the problem.

I'm have a lot more trouble with my arm at this point than my leg. They say it is Tendenitis and it is quite painful. My arm is barely useful and it has lasted almost 4 months now. I'm using a tens unit on it right now.

Thank you for your input

Also landed here from google. I also have this in my left shin. I don't have any new injuries and noticed this yesterday. There's no pain, just numbness over the whole area of my left shin. It's numb to the touch, but otherwise feels normal. I do kickboxing and my personal trainer has been doing boxing endurance training with me occasionally. Last week we did leg exercises on the gym machines for hamstrings and quads, and then we did resistance band walks the following session. The numbness seems to have appeared sometime since then.

The feeling is the same as I felt in my chest after collar bone surgery, which severed the nerves that connect the skin over the top half of the pectoral muscle.

I did have knee surgery on this leg but that was over a decade and a half ago, and everything has been fine.

I found it interesting that over 80% of the cases mentioned say "left shin" mine is left too! Mine resulted frm driving for so long. I don't play golf.

It started off as lower back/waist pain, so bad that I couldn't walk upright, had a tilt to the left. 30-40mins walk every morning was helping and then the SHIN NUMBNESS!

Haven't felt anything like it before. It starts up from my left hip joint with funny sensation, not really numbness. The numbness starts from below the knee down to my ankle. My foot is fine except for the inner side facing the right foot.

I had a friend massage my back and feet yesterday.Yet to see a doctor but the feeling is sure uncomfortable. No pain with the numbness.

Can't sit for too long. Have to support my back with pillow to sit upright.

What do I do?

    • Nice, I just thought mine was a decent guess to rule out a few things and did not expect to hole out.
    • Hey team. This is a very difficult hole at the course I started golfing on and where I often go back. I always struggle - it’s narrow (35y) with trees on both sides. If you go lateral, you’re out of bounds. The green also feels small.    I play the white tees usually, so 30 or so yards up from here. If I hit my driver, it usually goes lateral and lost or if it curves it hits a tree and I lose a ton of distance.   I carry my 7i probably about 140-145, with 5-7 yards of roll out. Driver is 265 with roll out on a good strike with a premium ball, but probably closer to 220 carry on average. My hybrid goes about 180-200 including roll out but has been fading quite a bit recently not too much wind on this hole and the ground is hard, but I’m not sure I’ve practiced a long punch. If that’s what I need to work on, happy to put in the time.  Appreciate any advice anyone has, approach to holes like this, or other things to consider.
