My highest lofted club is a 60* but I never use it for full shots, only around the green. I used to do nothing but chip with my 56* but have recently hit a lot with my 60*. I feel like it really comes in handy when you have a shot over a bunker to a tucked pin. When I have a full shot where a 60* is needed, I force myself to hit a knocked down 56*, and with that I get more comfortable hitting the same shot with any club when I'm in between distances.

I used to always carry a 60 degree lobby... found I didn't use it as much as I thought and I was not as consistent with it.  A few years ago I started only carrying my 56 and 53... I spent quite a bit of time practicing with the 56 and I am very confident with it.  In my opinion, confidence is a huge part of golf.  I think everyone has a few go to clubs... my 56 is a go to club for me

I used to carry 4 wedges a pw 48, gw 52, sw56 and lw 60. But i had to fill a gap in my iron- wood! So inoe have a rescue 2! I took out the 56 and 60 and replaced it for a 58 degree! It works great for me

52/56 for me.  I chip only with my 56... if i need to hit it high i lower my hands or open the face.  Don't need the 60 and don't have space for it.

However, it seems that everywhere I look everyone else uses a 60* wedge.

Does anyone else use a 56* as your highest lofted wedge?  If so, why, and what's your handicapp?

Thanks.

I have the AP2 irons also, but I also have the 51 degree GW.  Then I have a 54° SW, and 56° utility wedge.  The 54 is almost 100% for bunker play.  The 56 is for anything around the green that I simply can't use the GW or PW for.

I have a 56 & 60. I hardly ever use the 60, and when I do it's tough to be consistent with it. Much more comfortable with the 56, use it for full shots, bunker play, chips & pitch shots. I read a piece in GD where 4 instructors - Leadbetter, McLean, Harmon & Haney - all agreed that most amateurs should not carry a 60 as they can't use such a high lofted wedge effectively. I'm thinking of dropping the 60 as I barely ever use it & the 56 is my go to club anyway.

Yup.  I also have a 47* PW (not AP2, but rather 15 year old DCI 981) and then a 56* SW.  I do carry a 60 but have stopped using it because it's just too risky for me.  As a decent but cetainly not great player (HDCP 9) I rarely see the need to try a big high flop.  I'd rather just open SW, hit it on the green, and so maybe it will roll a little too far.  But I'd rather putt from further away for my par than be trying to get out of that bunker I was trying to clear.

All that said, I don't like the 47 to 56 gap (25 yds, 100-125), so I guess I should get a 52.

I currently have a 56 as my highest loft with my 50 as the second highest. I've been thinking about going to a 54/58 in place of the 56 as I have an empty space in the bag.

Many-perhaps most--recreational player fail to carry a wedge with little enough bounce, regardless of loft.  You can't pop a ball gently without a wedge that, even when somewhat open, gets the leading edge all the way down to the ground.  You can't bump and run everything.  Sometimes youhave to hit a soft little cut lob, and too much bounce on the trailing edge of the sole takes that shot right out of the picture.  You're not swinging hard enough to displace the ground with a bounce sole..

Taylormade RocketBallz.....13° tour spoon;  Ping G15.....17° fairway wood;  Callaway RAZR X Blk.....24° fairway wood;

Epon AF-901....19° driving iron;  Wishon 870Ti....5-8 irons (1° weak), 9-iron (2° weak); Nakashima SuperSpin.....52, 58, 64° wedges;

Lovett Tour Standard.....sand iron; Louisville HB.....putter.

54/60 for me. My PW (part of the iron set) is 48*, so this setup gives me consistent gaps. I usually go with the 54 unless there is good reason to go with the 60 (tight lie, short sided, etc.)

56 is my highest lofted wedge.  I practice with it a LOT and it's become my most dependable club.  I've saved a lot of strokes with it.

i personally think u only need a 60 degree wedge if you are a long hitter. if u hit your pw at least 140 then it makes a lot of sense to carry a 60 degree. i can actually hit a 60 degree pretty good but i feel like i can get similar results with my 56 sand wedge. only on courses with extremely deep bunkers and fast greens would i really need a 60 degree.
