Saw Holly on 2 different shows with Michael Breed and Martin Hall as their "student".  One was how to get rid of a slice and she actually hit a shot, swing looked pretty good.  I wonder if guys are calling in saying they want to see more Holly so they're putting her in more golf segments or if she asked to get more TV time.  For those guys that don't know who she is:

Quote:

Holly Sonders joined Golf Channel in January 2011, providing tournament and news updates as well as the top headlines of the day at the bottom of the hour during Morning Drive. Sonders comes to Golf Channel from KATV in Little Rock, Ark., where she was a news and sports reporter. Sonders also served as a sideline reporter for the Big Ten Network during the 2009 season.

An Ohio native, Sonders began her career at WBNS-10 TV in Columbus working on “The Average Joe Sports Show,” a live, weekly television show that covered statewide athletics on the high school and collegiate levels. A graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in Communications, Sonders was a four-year member of the MSU Women's Golf Team and helped the Lady Spartans to a Big Ten Championship in 2007.

I like Holly.  Not only is she really easy on the eyes, she also makes the show more fun.  Breeder is too high-strung and I find Martin Hall to be a grumpy old man.  Holly is bright, bubbly and fun though.  I hope we see more of her.

They should just get rid of Breed and Hall and just have an instruction show with Holly and Lauren Thompson.  Id watch.

Holly seems genuine.

Lauren does not seem genuine in her speech.

More Holly.

Agree.  Holly has a good golf swing and clearly knows he stuff.  Lauren, on the other hand, I feel like she is just a model who The Golf Channel hired because she is pretty.  Im OK with that...

Wait...she plays golf too???  Dayam...I love you Holly.  And yes, I do mean it in a stalkerish kind of way.  The way I look at it, if I'm going to jail for stealing a car, I'm taking the Ferrari not the Pinto.  At least my public defender won't laugh at me for being stupid and having bad taste.

I agree she does come across as more genuine, maybe being a member of a DI golf team helps her be more comfortable around the golf stuff.

Holly should be on every show as far as I'm concerned. If she was a better golfer and competed on LPGA, she would be a worldwide superstar. It would be like Gulbis who? Lauren is a very prety girl but doesn't know anything about golf. Producers definitely feed her with stuff to say. She seems very nice though

I saw Holly at the PGA Merchandise show. Let's just say I think I've seen thicker straws than her legs. The TV must truly add ten or twenty pounds, and she needs all of 'em.

Someone needs to post some photos of her follow through about 3secs after hitting the hybrid on Breeds show because I think it might be the 6th key (only for female members of course) for hitting good golf shots.

Watching it now...it might be the only key if it's as good as I'm hoping it is.

As I've said before, TGC is a wasteland Monday to Wednesday ... the more hotties they pepper the talking head shows with the better.

Wait, so are you saying that you DON'T like seeing Tin Cup three nights in a row every other week?

(I kinda like the "On The Range" show they've started doing Wednesday nights this year)

Oh, and speaking of hotties, I am also a big fan of Lara Baldesara (sp?) on the Grey Goose show.  Love that Canadian accent.

She's decent. Wears makeup like its going out of style. Cool that she actually partakes in playing though.

I'm a Wynn McMurray fan myself.

I'm a Holly fan.  Although she has good angles and not so good ones.  She does love to stick that chest out

I was a big Wynn fan but then one day her fake announcers voice and phrasing hit me like a ton of bricks and now I can't watch her.  Well I should say listen to her.  It is so over the top and put on that it drives me nuts.  She's like the female version of Ryan Seacrest.  Yucking it up with her announcers voice.  It's only getting worse.

Here she is in 2009.  It's there, I can hear it but it's not too bad:

Now listen to her in 2012.  All it takes (for me)  is her first few words.  It's such a calculated fake announcers voice.  Yuckity Yuck: http://www.golfchannel.com/media/dot-com-extra-2012-season-preview-010312/

I hope I don't ruin Wynn for any of you fans, but for me I can't listen anymore.

    • Going to Florida for the usual February golf trip, and with our current weather, that date won't get here soon enough. Heading to Augusta GA for the Tuesday Master's practice round, will definitely get some golf in while I'm in the area for a few days. Hope to be able to catch up with @coachjimsc if he's around. Then it's back to Scotland first of July.  Playing 7 new courses, can't wait for that.  Then somewhere after that is the Rhode Island CC Member-Guest and then my normal October golf trip to Myrtle Beach.
    • It sucks to carry around a lot of water, but ideally it should be way more than we think.  I buy those gallon jugs of water and hang them from my pushcart when I walk. I agree with the electrolytes as well. You don't just sweat out water, but you lose electrolytes as well.
    • A 2010 study from the Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research compares the effects of different pre-round stretch routines for competitive golfers. Active Dynamic Warm-up: Swing Medicus driver, hit 3 shots each with selected clubs. Passive Static Stretches: Various athletic stretches such as hamstrings, chest stretch and reverse trunk twist. The subjects were collegiate golfers with a HDCP index of 5 or less who engaged regularly in strength and fitness routines. All golfers had two test days: one with active dynamic (AD) warmup, a second with AD followed by static stretches (SS). The results were then compared, within golfers and across golfers. For performance testing after the warmups, golfers hit three driver shots at time 0, 15, 30 and 45 minutes after the warmup. The study shows that static stretch formats produced poorer performance outcomes in the four measures shown in Table 5, which shows Time Zero results. The performance deficits under the PSS protocol decreased over time. Some suggestions on why the passive protocol was tied to lower performance than the active protocol: The passive stretches routine induced excessive range of motion,  basically producing wobbles in the golf swing. Other research indicates that the stretching produced slack in the tendons, lessening the amount of muscle force that could be transferred into the shot. One caveat: The study had good scientific controls and balancing of treatments (test routines). This was, however, an exploratory study and raises as many questions as it answers. Also, although the study was done back in 2010, it is still cited as a primary work in recent reviews. A quick online search did not reveal any follow-ups on the study. For those interested, the study PDF is below. PassiveStretchGOLF.pdf
    • I have trouble with vertigo on occasion, but have gotten nutritional and biofeedback tips to keep it at bay. Dehydration can help trigger v-like symptoms so one recommendation, along with maintaining overall hydration, is to start with 8 oz. of water early in the morning. A meta-analysis on Golf As Physical Activity indicated that golf is rated as a moderately intensive physical activity. This scientific literature review came from the University of Edinburgh. The physical activity level ties into hydration. A former university colleague was a marathon runner who had published a couple of articles on endurance training. He likewise said that golf was a moderate physical activity especially when the round stretched past  the two-hour mark. For hydration he recommended switching from water to electrolyte drink on the back nine (past two hour point of exercise) to prevent cramping. At the two-hour point of moderate activity, water starts flushing electrolytes out of the body, which can lead to fatigue and cramping. (I have had trouble with leg cramps in the past during exertion.) During a round, I start out with water on the front nine and switch to sports drink on the back nine. If the day is unusually hot, I may drink 8 oz. of Pedialite concentrate before going to the course. Maintaining overall hydration plus on-course boosters keeps me going.
    • Personally I’d try booking direct first - either via the Vidanta golf reservations number/email or through the resort concierge - especially for Christmas/New Year. Vidanta’s main courses (Greg Norman and Nicklaus designs) are popular and can book out fast this time of year, so direct often gives you the best shot at your preferred tee times.
