Lie angle

I have had nike nds iron for the last 7 years and have gotten down to a 10 handicap with them but decided my game would improve with some new technology and the mizuno irons were the best fit for me. One this that I realized after I bought the clubs was the the lie angle of the two sets were different. What effect will I see in the two sets of clubs due to the lie angle? Should I have my new irons adjusted to the lie angles of my old irons? Thanks for the help

Did you have the new clubs fit? Did you have the old clubs fit? If neither you don't know if either lie is correct so why change? It is a little late now to have them fit but I guess you could have them bent to the correct lie, whatever that is. There is also the question of shaft stiffness and shaft length. Go to a good fitter and see how off the clubs are. My fit clubs are 4 up or 4 degrees more upright. Big difference in my game. Good luck!

I did see a fitter and they had me stay with the standard lie. I am just curious what effect the lie angle could have on my shots. I really hit them straight just haven't quite been able to hit them as solid yet. I know that it will take me some time to adjust to the new clubs but I wasn't sure how the different specs on the new clubs would effect me.

One thing to consider: the MP53 iron shafts are a quarter-inch longer. Shaft length and lie angle are related - ask a fitter to explain how.

Who's standard?

As you have proven by posting the above chart, there is no "standard" loft, lie or length.  The only thing you should be worried about is that they are bent to the correct angles and cut to the correct length FOR YOU, regardless of what the actual numbers are.

Taking into account that manufacturing tolerances for loft and lie angles is +/- 1°, that new 7 iron that is advertised as 61.5° of lie can realistically come to you actually measuring 60.5° to 62.5°.  So don't get too hung up on advertised numbers, focus on getting the clubs bent to fit you.

For lie angle you have to hit the stick with the face taped up with hitting tape to indicate where the ball is making contact with the club on the face.  Standards deviate between manufacture'rs.  So when I get a set of sticks that are new to me I'll go to Dicks Sporting Goods most of the time.  Hit off there board with the face taped and see where the club face is making contact with the ball.  You can guess all you want but hitting a ball on the face and having it indicated on the face will determine how the lie angle needs to be adjusted.  Very frustrating to be aiming what you think is correct and probably is only to have the ball go left/right because of where the ball makes contact on the face.  Ok that's it.  thanks

Uh, no. That's not how the correct lie angle is determined.

Lie angle is determined by hitting balls on a lie board with the BOTTOM of the clubhead covered with a special lie tape, marked in small increments. Where you hit the ball on the face doesn't determine the correct lie.  Where the bottom of the club hits the lie board is the important factor.  You can hit the ball on the exact center of the clubface, but if the lie is too upright, the ball will go left. Once you determine how much upright or flat the clubhead is when hitting balls, you can then bend the irons to fit your swing.

Yep you are correct, my bad.  I had both sides taped face and bottom.  I should have said that and frankly brain farted about that aspect of it.  thanks
