Hogwarts is in Scotland.  Darkog, you need to be more specific in your goals.  Are you referring to becoming a Golf Professional (instructor), or just to become a better golfer?  PGA tour pro is a completely different direction and extremely difficult.

Build a time machine.  Go back 20 years.  Take up the game at age 8.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

If you want to improve your game over the next 6mo to 12mo be a part of the European Tour... My advice would be simple:

Forget school and do the following:

(1.) Practice - play every day - with rigorous training sessions on both the range, bunkers, greens, and course.

(2.) Get a sports nutritionist to create a meal plan for you; it is very important to eat right.

(3.) Buy a Temporpedic mattress; getting plenty of sleep is huge to recover after a hard day of work - and a good mattress will help you sleep.

(4.) Strength Train - Hit the gym and do lots of reps with resistance bands and dumb bells - get your flexibility and core strength up to ensure you can swing the driver ~ 112mph (tour average)

(5.) Get a support staff:

(a.) Swing coach

(b.) Golf psychology coach,

(c.) Chiropractor, and

(d.) Massage therapist.

It wouldn't hurt to have a trust fund - or a sugar momma to take care of you during this effort.  It won't be cheap, and it will take a lot of blood, sweat and tears to make it happen.

Good luck!

You don't go to school to become a professional.

There is no best school.

Time and money are not going to help you at this stage.

You have left it too late.

There would be several million players in the U.S. alone who would beat you by 20 shots at this stage.

Money isn't going to allow you to get past them.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Darkog,

What skills and work experience do you have in non-golf areas? If you have useful skills, you might try getting work at a golf course.

You would need to find a chief golf professional at a country club or a resort who would help you develop your game while you were an employee there. You would be his apprentice. If you have merchandising experience, you might get a job at the pro shop (where they sell golf clubs, balls, clothing) as your main job at the course.

Or, you might get a job as a waiter, bartender or greenskeeper. If you work outside the course's actual golf operation, you would need the cooperation of your boss and the golf pro so that you could work on your game in your free hours.

Also, you need to talk to administrators of the European Tour and find out how a new person gets into the tournaments.

If you are lucky, maybe you could work at a golf resort where the head pro has playing experience on the European Tour.

Other issues:

  • Do you have a pro who gives you regular lessons? What does the pro say about your chances of getting to be a scratch golfer? If not, could you find someone to teach you in a systematic manner?
  • What is the strong part of your golf game? Is there one weak part which you know you must improve to be able to play for money?
  • Do you have the golf clubs (driver, irons, etc.) that you need, or are you playing with basic clubs you found here and there? Have you ever been fitted for clubs?
  • Be aware that the golf industry has a number of sectors (divisions) to it. There are plenty of other jobs in the golf industry other than playing on the pro tour.

Focus, connect and follow through!
