FEe2.jpg Tiger Woods's agent Mark Steinberg was arrested last night for "DWI and Aggravated DWI" for having a blood alcohol content above 0.18, according to tweets by Mike Buteau of Bloomberg News . Buteau also tweeted an image of a press release from the Ardsley, N.Y., police department, which listed Steinberg among those arrested at a checkpoint at the intersection of Saw Mill River Road and the New York State Thruway.

this guy is only 44, that's wild.  how did he land such a prized gig at such a young age?

edit:  he's been with tiger since 1998; 30 y/o is pretty young to land a client like tw.

Steinberg was probably celebrating Tiger playing great golf and being in the Top 3 so isn't it kind of Tigers fault?

Interesting. I drive around that area often but I've never seen a checkpoint, however, I've only been in Ardsley during the day.

I see why they would put a checkpoint there though, the Saw Mill River Parkway is dicey for sober drivers let alone drunk ones. It is narrow and tortuous with very very short exit and on ramps, built during a time when cars went much slower. I've passed by some awful looking accidents and once waited while a helicopter went in to get a motorcycle accident victim.

Tiger liked him.

Didn't Haney say that Steinberg was Tiger's only real confidant?  I would guess this guy knows all of Tiger's dirt and cleans up his messes.

As an attorney, I'm wary of programs that stop everyone. But since it is a privilege to drive ...

As to Steinberg, the incident may be symptomatic of emotional troubles in his life or other issues. I wish him well. With pleading out, educational classes, seeing a state counselor, community service, etc, DUI is not easy, certainly not easy  if one denies they have an issue.
After looking at various State programs for DUI, I've found it is a racket for people making money for the state and does little or nothing to resolve the issue. The cost of one DUI is more than $10k and lost time in work. DUI recidivism is higher than 60% and state assistance is merely educational.
One of the causes of continued DUI is that many of the people, not high profile types like Steinberg, are strapped for cash and a job, and can't afford DUI and its high costs. If MADD and other organization were truly interested in solving the problem, we'd have state mandated counseling and reasonable costs. The state treats the symptoms but not the cause, and therefore the individual prone to DUI is not aware of, refuses to recognize, or does nothing about the issues leading to their drinking.
We know DUI is a problem, the States know it is an issue, and still, the State uses DUI as a revenue enhancer while people die from DUI.

Haney is disgusting fool. His book crossed the line. Even in sports, there should be student/teacher confidentiality.

Not arguing that.  Just saying he said Steinberg and Tiger have a very close relationship.

I realize that, but it just leads me to wonder how much of the book is exxaggerated for the sake of bigger sales.

Maybe its because I too work with athletes, and have a ton of respect for the hard work they put in, but I cant imagine betraying the trust of one of my guys like that. It makes me sick to my stomach.

I'm sure some of the stuff in his book is true.  If not, seems like Tiger would have one heck of a libel lawsuit against Haney.

A guy like Tiger Woods can't get away with the stuff he was doing for as long as he did without someone helping clean up the mess.

You can't sue someone for libel for expressing their opinions which is the majority of Haney's book.   Haney describes an event then gives his opinion on what he thinks Tiger was thinking.  I doubt he lied about any of the actual events he cites in the book.

I also didn't see anything that Haney wrote as damaging to Tiger beyond the betrayal of coach / student confidentiality so it wouldn't be worth it for Tiger to sue.  Last thing Tiger wants to do is bring more attention to Haney and his book.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
