I think it would be pretty awesome to see some of the top male and female pro's go head to head in stroke play at the same course at the same time just to see what the results would be. of course tee box locations would have to be modified.

Just wondering what everyone thinks about this and if they would want to see this too. also who do you think would win? (female or male)

After a bad tee shot it does not mean the hole is over, it means you have an opportunity to show what you are made of!

They do this already - it's the Wendy's 3Tour Challenge in November, and they add in some Champions Tour players as well.     As to whether others would want to see this, apparently just enough do so that it is usually televised, but ratings are pretty low so apparently not a lot of people are truly interested.

wow I can't believe I never knew about this. Well that makes this thread a little more boring lol. Thanks for the info lol.

I believe, although I don't know the stats, that the males are superior in pretty much every category and moving up the tee boxes will do nothing to help the ladies improve their putting and scrambling.

I don't know why the ladies fall behind in putting and short game; there isn't really much of a physical reason, driving and long game maybe but it seems to me that anyone should be able to putt and scramble well with enough practice.

Yeah that does not make much sense since it is not really much of a swing/movement, even though they could all out chip me =P

Isn't that geared more towards charity and just a good time? I caught a bit of it last year and it seemed less serious than a real tournament.

We had a thread about this a week months ago. Some people thought it would be interesting if the WGC Match Play included women.

The PGA Tour would have nothing to gain by doing this, and the LPGA would have nothing to gain, either.

A goofy little exhibition (Wendy's) is one thing, an actual event is another thing altogether.

Couldn't be done. The Women's U.S. Open at Oakmont two years ago was played on a course with a lighter setup than existed for the men in 2007. You can have tees set so the men and women hit the same clubs into the green, but you can't have two kinds of rough, two speeds of greens, two sets of pins at the same time, along with the more subtle setup options. If it was a serious competition with something at stake, the men would walk all over the women.

Anyone remember the Battle at Bighorn with Tiger/Sorenstam and Duval/Webb?  Those women got embarrassed.

Maybe they should let the ladies take carts & the men walk, since apparently it's a huge advantage to not have to walk from shot to shot.

Depends how they tweaked it. Make the woman play 6000 yards and the men 7400 and a top woman might have an advantage.

Golf digest summed up why woman were worse short game players. Because they don't have to be as good to be competive(not to mention smaller talent pool).  Also compare the money. Number 50 on the LPGA made 177k in official money in 2011. After paying your caddie, travel expenses, and so on that doesn't leave a lot of money to hire Stan Utley or Dave Stockton to help you with your short game. On the PGA tour your 1.679 million gives you plenty of cash to drop 200k on coaching.

I think the actual reason why they aren't is simply one of speed. Guys will use SPEED in their short-game shots while women can't or won't. It takes a lot of speed to hit some shots around the greens and women just generally don't use it like men will tend to.

I know nothing about golf (lol I always have to start with that caveat), but someone looked at the number of George Baker Scholars coming out of Harvard Business School, and they invariably tended to be men, and that's beyond the proportionality ratio. Point being, men are just more competitive than women. The will to perform at peak is more observable among men than among women.

I realize, however that this doesn't explain the game-specific reasons for women being worse golfers though.

Because the sport of golf is an athletic endeavor, and men are better athletes than women.

But nice try.

P.S. I said it in the other thread, but I know a guy who says "if a woman can do it as well as a man, it's not a sport" in regards to the "game/sport" question. This applies to this thread in that way.

Not sure where to begin in refuting your post. First of all I'd guess that Ivy league schools in general and especially the specialized schools within are heavily male dominated. Second, if you think women are not competitive you haven't met my wife, sister, mother and the woman that owns and runs the $30 million/year company I work for.

Second, the USA has traditionally been a male dominated society and up until the last 50 or so years, most women were conditioned to stay home and raise families rather than be the bread winners. This is slowly changing and woman IMO are at least as competitive as men and in the next few decades will become more and more powerful in the world.
