I am heading up to Erie and will be hanging out with some of the Golf Evolution guys (I know for sure Erik and Dave) for a few days.  I'll be arriving in Erie on the 25th and leaving on the 29th.

I may not be a scratch golfer but, they know from previous encounters on the phone, in person, pm, etc., that I definitely have a + plus handicap when it comes to talking junk.

Let the "games" begin.

As soon as my clubs figure out how to type, I'll let them do the talking for me. Until then, they'll just have to be content doing so on the golf course. ;)

I might just be like Phil Mickelson and the way he feels about Tiger.  "there's something about playing with you that brings out the best in me".   One thing is for sure.... I ain't scared.

If I play like Phil has so far today when I get there, I might need to be scared.

But, not to worry.

Bring one of those big key rings like the jailers wear in case you pick up any keys going around the course! This one has six keys on it and was rumored to have been owned by Ben Hogan himself.

What a great day. It was fun meeting fellow poster jamo, getting a lesson at the Golf Evolution practice facility, and then playing a round of golf with jamo, Erik, and one of Erik's other students/friends. I am not good at typing on this tablet so I'll give more detail when I get back home. Just know that it is worth making a trip to Erie.

Okay I got back to NC yesterday afternoon and have had a little bit of time to reflect on my trip to Erie.  Here are some things that I have learned:

1.  The Golf Evolution indoor practice facility is just about the coolest thing I have ever seen.  There are all sorts of hitting bays, gadgets, short game areas etc.  A person could spend a lot of time there if he/she lived near by.

2.  Erik is most knowledgeable about the swing and will talk to you about it all day. When he is not worried about "caddying" for you on the course, he can hit some very, very good golf shots and probably does play to scratch when he is focused on his own game instead of making sure you having a good time.

3.  Playing golf affords you the opportunity to meet some of the finest people one could ever hope to meet.  I know for a fact that jamo, Deryck Griffith, and Deryck’s friend Albert would all three be people I would play golf with regularly if I wasn’t a day’s ride from where they lived.  I thoroughly enjoyed meeting all three of them.

4.  Playing a round of golf with Dave Wedzik was an eye opening experience as to just how good players making a living on ANY tour must be.  He is without a doubt the best ball striker I have ever played a round of golf with and if he’s not out there making money on the golf course, then a lot of these internet “wannabees” are in for a rude awakening.  The good thing about this though, is that Dave is able to communicate how to hit the ball like he does very effectively and seems to really enjoy teaching.  I am fortunate to have the Golf Evolution team as my instructors.

5.  That being said, I also learned that I can hit some of the same shots that Dave and Erik hit.  I can hit the ball far enough off the tee to play courses at “championship length”.  The difference is in being able to keep the ball in play from those distances.  I made several easy pars where I hit the green in regulation and tapped in an easy second putt.  However, when a course gets to 7000+ yards, the key is hitting back to back quality shots and misses become much more penal.

6.  Sometimes, it is really as simple as ball position.  I learned that if I start missing the ball really badly left, that I have let my ball position creep back in my stance.  Aiming right to compensate is a DEATH MOVE that only makes it worse.

7.  Ultimately, the Aim Point putting technique for green reading  will take a good putter and make him/her a great putter.

8.  The people in Erie really like to hear someone with a southern accent talk.

9. Erik (especially) and Dave made me feel as though we had known each other as friends for a long time.  While we have met in person once before for an all day clinic, you really get to the feel for someone after you have spent a few days with them.  Both of them are just as nice and down to earth people as you could ever hope to meet.  Don’t let Erik fool you, he really does like people.

Awesome!!! Thanks for the recap! I fall into category six too often myself. And if I'm ever in Erie, I'll remember to use my fake southern accent. Hmmm I can't give a thumbs up with this iPad... Dang it.
