So, I tear the cover up on any ball I use. Doesn't matter if its a top flight or a pro v1. I do this with my short irons and wedges. My clubs are like 8 or 10 year old tommy armours. I want to buy a new set of clubs and wedges but I am afraid the problem will just get worse. Any idea as to what is making me tear the cover of the balls up?

That's strange.

Are you hitting it thin, and your clubs have a very sharp leading edge?

Is there some damage to the face of some your irons?

Why would getting new clubs make the problem worse?

The first thing I would check is the face of your irons. Being a little on the old (worn) side they may have some slight groove damage that could be causing it. Check all your irons as it might just be one irregular groove on one club.

I wouldn't worry about new irons continuing to have that effect, if it happens with a different set then it is certainly something you are doing and you can correct that.

I really doubt that I'm hitting it thin. My ball flight does not suggest it and neither does the divot. I will look over my clubs for damage. And I was refering to getting new wedges and having the same problem. I have hit some clevelands a couple of times and I get more spin.

Will do on checking my irons. But it happens with multiple clubs, not just one.

My new wedges do the same thing. its a little annoying but the damage to the ball is worth how well the wedges work.

After I touch up the grooves on a customers irons/ wedges they can cut golf balls. I usually scotch brite the face and grooves to dull the edges a little. However, they really like the action on the greens even though they are cutting balls.

i just can't see it being the grooves as these clubs are 8 or 10 years old. I checked them out and they aren't in bad shape. Nothing that should be ripping up my balls anyways. By the way, I have done this with other peoples clubs too. And I am not catching my shots thin. If I was I highly doubt I would be maintaining a 4 handicap and only playing a few times a year. However I could be totally wrong

[smartass]I highly doubt you are maintaining a 4 handicap and only playing a few times a year regardless. If so, with a little practice you could win the Masters next year[/smartass]

yeah ok. im sorry you are jealous. For your information I have been stuck at a 4 handicap for awhile now, even when I was playing a lot.

maybe you just hit the ball really well. pro's change balls after just about every short iron or wedge shot.. well, at the next hole.

I'm not jealous, I just don't believe you, if you really play as little as you say you do.

I am a 4 handicap or better, playing only 4 or 5 times a year. Of course, if I don't start the round real good, I just hit reset or play as Tiger!!!!!!!!! Oh, I thought we were playing on Playstation!

You think you are so funny. Like I said, no one has to believe my handicap. It makes no difference as to what you or anyone else thinks of it. I asked a simple question about a problem I'm having and no one can seem to answer it. Now, if you don't have an answer to my original question, don't post in this thread.

Hey maybe its not your clubs maybe its that cartpath you keep hiting or that tree. Whats your majic markers name? Ive got club championships coming up, can i borrow him/her? or do you mark your own cards?

Nah i have the same problem with my wedges and there less than 6 months old. I think its due to the milling on the wedges cutting up the ball. Pros do it aswell adam scott changes to a new pro-v every 3 holes. I use the B330-S because they dont seem to scuff as much as the pro-v's and the Z-URS.
