How often do you encounter people who smoke a joint during a round?

I was recently grouped with a twosome who were sort of Cheech & Chong (OK, I'm dating myself... uhh - Harold and Kumar?), they were decent golfers and it didn't seem to affect their play. How often do you play with people who smoke weed during their round?

Never, wouldn't stay grouped with them either if they lit up near me.  Some of my customers require I and my employees get drug tested,  I'm not about to risk my business for a couple of stoners.

Occasionally at most, sometimes I'll partake but usually not, golf's already pretty hard. It does seem to help with the flatstick though.

And newtogolf needs to relax a bit....I mean, you can just say no but to walk away and refuse to play with them is a little anal.

Agreed.  My son was hanging out with some buds at a party that were smoking and when he took his drug test, the admistrator said that a trace showed up in his sample.  The good news was that they said the amounts suggested that he wasn't smoking, rather just in proximity of someone that did, so nothing came of it.  While I don't always "believe" what my kids tell me, in this case I have to think it went as he stated since his test was over 3 months ago and he's still receiving paychecks in the mail from his company.  Nonetheless, it's an unnecessary risk and when my bud decides to take a "quick hit", I excuse myself and walk down the opposite side of the fairway.

The OP related the guys to Cheech & Chong and Harold and Kumar - they were the definition of stoners.  As for what you do and call yourself, that's your business, I just don't want to be paired with you when you "partake".

I've never seen it on the gold course. I have seen a few get out of there cars looking like Cheech and Chong with all the smoke pouring out though.

When I was in college at a party and somebody lit one and passed it to me.....yea, I'd hit that.   That was the extent of my use. When I was new to golf in my early 20's, yea......I was paired with several guys smoking weed.   As I get older, I never see it. If my playing partners are smoking weed,  they're obviously doing a better job at hiding it and making sure they are both far away and/or downwind because I haven't smelled pot on a golf course in EONS.  I also play much nicer golf courses now.........that tends to "weed out" the pot heads........LOL

I keep my hair buzzed pretty tight.....I probably look like the law to them so they are careful around me.  LOL

Well they serve beer on courses, so whats wrong with marijuana. There are not that many drugs that will facilitate sports of any type, but alcohol and marijuana are the two (pretty much the ONLY two) that come to mind. I suppose I could play after taking a couple vicodin however.

One is illegal, one is not.  Pretty big difference there.

I never encountered that during a round but as long as they were not doing it right next to me I wouldn't really care.

Well.............for one: it's ILLEGAL.

To be honest, I don't really care.  It's not an issue for me....joining up with some guys smoking pot wouldn't bother me.  the cardinal sin is slow play............so long as they don't play slow, I don't really care.

Marijuana? Ima come clean, I've never come close to any illegal drug. Doesn't it make you hallucinate? What the hell, you can't play golf like that! I mean sure I'll hit some heroin or acid, but marijuana? Just seems so wrong you know?

I play with a guy who is already pretty good/great, and when he smokes a little weed, he becomes superman.  I've never seen anything like it.  Gets goofy as hell and can't really speak correctly, but is hell on that golf ball.

I have never smoked any on the course, but it does not bother me if someone else elects to.

I understand what you're saying I get a hair sample done every month for work so it's not worth even being around it. Granted I probably wouldn't ask to leave the group but I would make it clear they need to just stay away while they are smoking. Now with this said since I joined a country club I haven't encountered it in years.

When I lived in Hotlanta back in 2001. I was friends with an older guy who I met on the golf course. We played a lot of rounds together. And he always smoke a little, every few holes. And he played better.

If I have even a sip of beer on the course, my hole game goes to crap. Don't know how some guys do it. It relaxes them I guess.

well  onsider the principle, is it necessary to catch a buzz to play golf either way? id rather play with a slow stoner as opposed to an angry unpredictable drunk
