Your best example of getting JACKED on the course (mucho bad luck) ...

That could be the worst thing to think about when going for a "hero" shot.  When I take those shots I say there is literally no chance I will hit the tree(even though there obviously is).  If you are scared as you take that shot you will be more likely to hurt yourself.  This type of shot may be the most exciting shot on the golf course for me.

The worst break I can think of is hitting the staff on our severe back to front 1st hole and having 30 yards in for my 3rd.

This happened years ago, I don't remember the course or hole, but I'll always remember this shot.  I'm 5 yards right of the hole, the green is so elevated that I can only see the top of the flag stick. I take a 60* wedge, open it up, and launch the ball almost straight up. Next thing I know I hear a loud "click" and the ball comes flying back and lands about 10 feet in front of me! WTF? My playing partners are screaming that my ball hit the cup and flew out and back at me. I go up and look at the cup and I see the cup liner is broken. I literally hit the cup on the fly, broke the liner, and the ball flew back out of the hole and landed 10 feet from where it started.

He never amounted to much as a touring pro before he turned 50. On a much brighter note:  he just the Senior Tour Players championship a few weeks ago!!

This happened to me just the other day at Owl's nest. I putted it to the hole dead center and it hit the edge of the plastic inside and bounced straight back out.

I was playing with a doctor once who hit his drive into the roots of a pine tree. We got to the ball and it looked bad, with maybe going backwards being his best option. He was about 175 out and took some long iron and gave it a whack. The ball flew straight up and hit him in the face, which became swollen like an orange over the next couple of holes. He finished the round, though. I've hit the 150 pole a couple of times. That always blows. I barely hit the front of a par 3 once where there were a flock of geese dumping their loads. They all started waddling toward the water and I guess touched my ball. I watched as it rolled down the hill and into the pond (miss the green short and the ball rolled into the water).

If the ball came to rest prior to them bumping it, then that wasn't a good example of getting JACKED on the course.

Sprinkler Head -->  Side of a Hill  -->  Cartpath -->  Hazard.     The resulting shot was a very awkward shot from basically a walking path behind the course that was not marked OB.   Thank goodness for being able to take my maximum on that hole.

Twice in my life, I have dunked the ball on the fly for what would have been holes in one.  In both cases, the cup liner and holes were mangled and the ball bounced out both times off the green.  I am still waiting for my first career ace after 25 years of golf.

A few weeks ago on a 170 yd par 3 I hit a little push to the right.  It wasn't that bad to begin with and it was about pin high probably 20yds to the right, It landed, Hit something bounced about 30 feet into the air dead right into a huge gaping run off that was on the other side of the cart path and lost forever.

I dropped and made bogey with a 10-15 foot put after a pretty good chip up from about 35 yds under a tree from some pine straw so I wasn't too mad, but was a WTF moment for sure.

Playing a par 3 last weekend. Hooked my tee shot into the tree line 30yds short/left of the green. I have a risky punch between a row of trees with 3-4 feet between each of them, to reach the green, but NOOoooo I decide to play it "safe" and pitch straight back out and have an easy chip for the next shot. I strike the chip and as it's in flight I see it's not as high as I'd have liked and it's tracking for one of the posts that line the cart path with rope. Sure enough it hits the 4" post and bounces straight back onto the cart path and carries about 10 more ft towards me. Ended up with 5 anyway.

Two weeks ago, I was 220ish out, hit a 5 iron, cleared the water hazard, ball hit a rake and bounced back into the water.

But I've had some good breaks too - although you never remember those ones

It's amazing how the smallest thing on a course can be in your way. 3 weeks ago I was at Tangleridge south of Dallas. Not sure which hole it was but I pushed my drive a little right and had a 3 hybrid ready to go at the green. My buddy smarts off and says don't hit that massive 2 inch tree... It's 30 yards ahead only about 10 foot tall, it was a little in my line but it was so small I didn't give it a second thought. Sure enough great contact but a caught the ball on my down swing more than I should have... yep... crack... off the smallest tree on the course. Not only does it send me straight left to the rough on the other side of the fairway, but a marshal was coming up behind us and saw the whole thing. He helped load the tree into his cart and carried it off. I sheered the tree off about 4 foot up lol.

2 weeks ago playing in a friendly family scramble, I was driving the ball really well.  But on the 18th, we had a nice safe ball in play so I decide to muscle down on it a bit.  Caught it a little thin for a low runner and it creams off of the ladies tee markers 40 yds ahead.  Ball flies straight up and lands 10 ft in front of me.  Everyone in the group were busting a gut.

Par 3, beautiful tee shot right at the flag. The ball hits the edge of the hole on the fly, tearing up the edge of the hole, hits the edge of the cup and bounces out like a rocket ending up on the edge of the green. 3 putts, bogey and my buddies razzing me the rest of the round.
