Last summer my friends and I played at Bowral GC which is in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales and before we tee'd off we were told under no circumstance to go looking for lost balls in the rough-about calf high- why we asked? it's snake season ...Red belly black snakes,King Brown snakes and the odd Death Adder are out and about.Needless to say amazingly we mostly kept to the fairways and only lost 3 balls between the four of us.It's funny how a fear of Death tightens up the swing and the sphincter.Another course to be wary of is Port Kembla GC which has a murder of crows......love that description!........that delight in stealing balls off the fairways and greens, very disheartening to hit a screamer right down the middle only to see it take flight in the beak of these aerial hooligans never to be seen again.

Saw a nine to eleven foot alligator sunning itself along the seventh hole of Countryway Golf Club in Tampa a few years back.  Biggest, meanest hazard I've ever seen.

Oh oh oh, I HATE SNAKES!!!!

A couple of months ago I was playing at this course, looking for my ball just off the back of a green. And there were snake holes everywhere, and all sudden I heard a rattler, I jumped and ran so fast, the others in my group freaked out too.

We have garter snakes, so no biggy.  But stepping into the water could be kinda dangerous, but not really.  We have about 3 dozen beavers that inhabit the river system within/near the course.  better hope it doesn't think you are a branch...

Apparently at a course in Queensland they have Bull sharks in one of their water hazards,a nearby river overflowed in the rainy season and stranded them in the hazard, don't know what they eat to survive probably errant golfers.

Along the left side of the 5th fairway at the local country club, there are two fences that keep coyotes and foxes in.... Needless to say, your ball is gone for good if it goes in there! It's somewhat unsettling to hear them during your round.

Just 3 weeks ago I had a rattler episode.  I was driving on the cart path closely behind my brother's cart when he swerved all of a sudden to leave a 30+ inch rattler 6 feet in front of me, of course I go to slam on the brakes and instantly realize I would stop with it directly beneath the cart.  With pretty much no time to think, I just kept the foot on the gas, and feet up!  I went straight over the top of it, and somehow didn't clip him with a tire. Terrifyingly Hilarious.  I laugh just thinking about it.

And tough, I should know that's my home course, 7024 yards 74.5 rate 142 slope, many frustrating afternoons but I think it makes me better in the long run, oh did I forget to mention the wind?

A course we played last month had snake warning signs in some of the wooded OB areas.

Once, at a nearby course that is situated next to a lake,  I used a 3 iron on a golf course inhabiting water moccasin.

It worked very well.

Most of the courses I play allow you to carry a pistol with rat shot in case you see a snake on the course.

There is one funny local law about it being illegal to have a gun at a sporting event.. But that re-starts the debate about Golf being a sport.

On my tombstone: "If this is the worst thing that ever happens to me, I'm doing just fine!"

Walked into a rattlesnake den at a local course when it first opened. My buddy dribbled his drive off the tee and I went to retrieve it. I heard a rattle and looked up there was a snake coiled up not 5 feet in front of me. All of a sudden there were more rattles all around me. I was surrounded on 3 sides by an old abandoned rock wall that was full of snakes. I backed my way out of there and when I was far enough away I counted 22 snakes. I almost had to change my shorts after that experience. Cool course though, Paako Ridge Golf Course.

Where? I'd like to avoid this course, I'm golfing all over the place in CO this year.

Alligators are fairly common around here.  I don't often see them on shore but on occasion I'll see one sunning itself next to a lake or pond.  As long as they aren't using my tee box I'll keep my distance but play on.

    • Ooh, I don't know about that. I've hit flop shots that are 6-7° down. The more you widen the spin loft the less ball speed you put into the ball.
    • Re: your graphic, ‘ I expected a little more from a varsity letterman.’ Lol…just another one for @boogielicious
    • Can't brag about a 50 last night but it was the best round of my season (4 rounds of 9 holes) so I am not as upset as I could be.  One thing I am noticed is that I got a little more confident in my long hybrids and I attempted a couple longer shots that typically I would just lay up and those holes were a big part of the lower score.  Not every shot was great but good enough that they helped.  I even shot par on a Par 5 after taking a drop.  On that hole I would usually lay-up to @ 100 yards and often miss the green altogether with my 3rd shot (or worse chunk my approach and put it in the waste area).  Yesterday I went for it from @ 200 yards out with wind in my face and landed in the waste area short of the green.  My drop left @ 40 yards in and I stuck it to 3 feet for my par putt.  If I had laid up I would have avoided the penalty stroke but likely would not have been on the green in regulation and may still have been working for par.  By going for it I gave myself a chance at birdie and still saved par. I do not plan on being crazy aggressive but I think I tend to be too conservative at times so I will "go for it" a little more often going forward.
    • Day 14 (15 May 24) - Worked with the SW in the backyard, short pitches from 10yds up to 30yds.   Focused on ball placement in stance - ball back, ball forward, ball center.  Afterwards moved to inside the shop to work on putting pace on the rug - putting one way gives about an 8' putt, going the other a 6' before bumping onto the adjacent rug.  Focused there on the line - picking a target point about 18"-24" out and making sure the ball rolls through that point.
    • When someone is trying to validate their choice, statements concluding with "right" are often the MO.  Too bad he thinks he has to keep defending his decision, just do like guys like DJ and HVIII - take the money, play the tourneys and keep quiet.
